Job Description

This role will support the UK Payments industry by developing policy which is responsive to both customer needs and regulatory concerns. The position will also provide policy and secretariat support to working groups and committees ensuring they receive timely highquality inputs which inform their work and our policy positions.

This post will also contribute to the production of a range of publications public affairs material and online media content.
Managing various the clients internationally focussed committees including at the EU level and supporting and managing UK focussed committees in
interbank and consumer retail markets
Managing the European Payments Working Group to build positions on keyEuropean policy developments and identify where UK industry would benefit from aligning/diverging from European payments policy. Overseeing the UK s continued membership of SEPA through close coordination with members
and the European Payments Council (EPC).
Working in partnership with members of the payments team across a broad range of strategic issues relevant to UK and international payments.
Jointly managing the clients relationships with trade associations in the EU and internationally for payments and personal banking including the
European Banking Federation (EBF) European Payments Council (EPC) European Card Payment Association (ECPA) and International Banking
Federation (IBFed).
Jointly managing the clients relationship with key regulators across the payments and innovation agenda acting as a technical expert including with
HM Treasury the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Payment Systems Regulator (PSR).
Engage closely with and support the clients colleagues and groups working on crosscutting projects/workstreams on a number of issues across
payments digital data economic crime and the ongoing review of the Payments Services Regulations.
Provide members with relevant market and regulatory insights to inform their own business planning.
Responsibility for preparing consultation responses Committee and Board papers and communicating with senior level representatives internally and
externally.
Modelling the visions and values of UK Financ

Skills and competencies
Knowledge of the UK and European public policy landscape.
Knowledge and experience of the payments sector demonstrating an understanding of:
o the challenges faced by members in running their businesses including the needs of members customers and clients
o the needs of regulators and authorities
o the international dimension of payments and particularly how the UK engages with Europe in payments

Understanding of the wider payments landscape including card and interbank payments and where the key policy issues intersect internationally.
Capable of acting as a subject matter expert and credibly representing the clients externally with speeches webinars conference panels Chatham House discussions and potentially the media.
Public policy affairs experience at the UK and/or EU level with government parliamentarians and regulators (either within those circles or with a firm or
consultancy) is highly desirable for this role. Ability to track horizon scan and summarise emerging regulatory and policy developments.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills ability to distill complex issues into compelling policy advocacy positions together with the ability to effectively manage diverse stakeholder relationships.
