CLERK OF THE WORKS CoW

The Clerk of the Works is responsible for assisting the Senior Project Manager or Project Manager in ensuring the quality of materials and workmanship during the construction phase of projects. This role involves detailed inspections monitoring construction activities and ensuring that all work aligns with the design specifications standards and project goals particularly in Northern infrastructure projects. The CoW plays a crucial role in representing the clients interests advising on potential issues and ensuring that construction progresses according to the agreed schedule and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

Perform rigorous and detailed inspection of materials and workmanship of construction throughout the construction phase

Travel to remote communities for extended durations

Assist the assigned Senior Project Manager or Project Manager with construction inspections and production of reports as required

Report all occurrences that are relevant to the role

As directed by the PM be on site full time or making regular visits and documenting such visits on a weekly monthly or asneeded basis.

Making sure that work is carried out to the design standards specification correct materials workmanship and schedule

Becoming familiar with all the relevant drawings and written instructions checking them and using them as a reference when inspecting work

Making visual inspections

Advising and reporting to the client and design consultant about certain aspects of the contractor s work particularly when something has gone wrong.

Requirements

Education & Experience

A postsecondary degree in a relevant discipline

A minimum (3) three years of progressively challenging CoW experience on large commercial and/or institutional buildings and/or civic works

Direct experience in representing the interests of the client in regard to ensuring that the quality of both materials and workmanship are in accordance with the design information during the construction phase of infrastructure projects.

Project Management certification or registered with Project Management Institute (PMI) will be considered an asset.

Representing clients during the construction phase of Northern infrastructure projects will be considered an asset
