Job Description

The Role:
We a seeking a Renal/Nephrology Senior Registrar to join a dedicated team in a friendly location with a vibrant community.

Registrar REG1 - REG6 - Remuneration Package $139,104 - $173,871
(accredited 12 months of advanced for training)

It provides an exciting and challenging working environment with exposure to acute and chronic disease with an emphasis on Aboriginal health with high rates of infection, diabetes, and chronic renal, heart, lung and liver disease.

    Hot summer days are contrasted against frosty, sub-zero winter nights.
Renal services provide care for over 400 dialysis patients, a smaller number of transplant recipients and an increasing number of patients with chronic kidney disease. Renal facilities include a hospital renal ward, hospital in-centre haemodialysis facility, 3 large satellite haemodialysis facilities, remote dialysis units (nurse supported and self-care), interventional nephrology activities (including endovascular skills), outpatient clinics and outreach work to regional and remote communities. Growing at twice the national average, the Renal Services are funded to develop and run innovative methods of service delivery in chronic and end stage kidney disease.

The Hospital:
The Hospital is a 189 bed Hospital that services the Red Centre of Australia, it is the only acute secondary care service for 1500km in any direction and more than 60% of admissions are Aboriginal people often from remote communities.

The hospital provides the following services: Day Procedure, Emergency, Intensive Care and High Dependency, Maternity, Medical, Outpatients, Paediatric, Special Care Nursery, Surgical and Mental Health, plus arrange of clinical support services.

It is also accredited with the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards and has links to many external research organisations.

The Location:
An intriguing place that host's a jam-packed calendar of festivals, celebrations, and quirky events throughout the year. Hike, climb and cycle your way through the chasms, craters and sacred Aboriginal sites of the MacDonnell Ranges, or four-wheel drive the expansive Simpson Desert in the southeast.

It is multicultural with well-established schools and amenities. Bicycle-friendly - rarely taking more than 10 minutes to get anywhere. Out of town are places to camp under the stars, swim through gorges, explore rocky mountain ranges and hit world-class mountain bike trails.

Skills & Qualifications required:
  1. Current registration with AHPRA
  2. Good verbal and written skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  3. With extensive clinical experience within this speciality, you will bring current knowledge and skills to the Department.
  4. The ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Essential
  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Trainees registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for Advanced Training in Nephrology or dual Advanced Training in Nephrology and General Medicine.
  3. Sound clinical knowledge in assessment and management of patients and a commitment to provide appropriate high quality service.
  4. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work environment, as a team member.
  5. Ability to work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team comprised of doctors, scientists, technicians and infection prevention staff;
  6. An interest in and a commitment to improving Aboriginal health.
  7. Evidence of commitment to continuing education, teaching, research and quality assurance activities.
  8. Proven ability to manage self and others, monitor performance, manage change and develop policy with an understanding of EEO and WHS principles and policy.
  9. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
