MCHS Family of Services
has partnered with Mondo Unlimited to find their next Director of Residential Services. MCHS Family of Services is a child and family welfare agency located in Metro Detroit providing foster care and adoption mental health services transitional living child abuse prevention and a variety community wellness programs.The Director of Residential Services is responsible for ensuring the Residential Program meets agency expectations and goals; works with program staff to ensure that a safe therapeutic supportive and accepting environment is maintained for the residents and their families; manages and directs program operations; directs supervises and evaluates program staff; directly supervises the Residential Supervisors; with the direction of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) evaluates and implements residential programs and services.


DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Work with the COO Director of Clinical Services Cottage Supervisors Department Supervisors and the treatment teams to implement and oversee the traumainformed care and treatment in the Residential Program to ensure that treatment modalities are integrated into the milieu and are in line with the agency treatment philosophy standards of care and the treatment goals for individual residents families and groups.
  • Work with various program supervisors and directors to oversee the interface among the various services/departments and the treatment teams in the residential program to meet the residents emotional physical and basic needs within the guidelines of the highest standard of care.
  • Manage the operations of the program and enforce best practice models to ensure that the residential program functions within the rules regulations and guidelines set forth by the State of Michigan s DHHS the agency and COA; establish and maintain department systems records and reports; recommend develop and implement new approaches policies and procedures for continual improvement of department services.
  • Establish and oversee administrative procedures to meet the program goals and objectives set by the COO and the executive team.
  • Oversee the program staff and volunteers to ensure that they are functioning within the requirements of their job duties; provide guidance training assistance and support to staff when needed including planning staffing performance management professional development adjusting workloads as necessary and addressing and resolving complaints to create a climate of teamwork and motivation; directly manage the Residential Program s Supervisors and be able to effectively perform the duties of a Residential Supervisor OnCall Supervisor or Youth Specialist as needed.
  • Act as staff expert for the program; work with the program staff regarding department or program licensing/certification rules licensing complaints and rulings to ensure ongoing compliance with all agency licensing contractual and legal obligations and requirements.
  • Work with the Education Support Services Supervisor through clear direct communication and collaboration to ensure proper advocacy for all residents to receive the appropriate educational services and reach their potential through academic success and achievement.
  • Develop departmental structures and processes to hold staff accountable to best practice standards for the program by the agency policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Administrative OnCall rotation to provide afterhours and weekend support to members of the residential team via agency provided cell phone.
  • Operate within the guidelines of the Employee Handbook agency policies and procedures program s Operations Manual and DHHS policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the social sector with a passion for MCHS s mission and vision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the COO and CEO.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Master s degree in a human behavioral science such as Social Work (MSW) or a related discipline where 25% of the course credits earned toward the degree are in human behavior sciences.
  • Two (2) years experience as a supervisor in a residential or inpatient setting working with serious emotional disorder (SED) atrisk youth between the ages of 7 17.
OR
  • Bachelor s degree in a human behaviors schedule such as Social Work (BSW) or a related discipline where 25% of the course credits earned toward the degree are in human behavior sciences.
  • Five (5) years experience as a supervisor in a residential or inpatient setting working with serious emotional disorder (SED) atrisk youth between the ages of 7 17.

Knowledge Requirements:
  • Computer and software applications (Windows MS Office Internet applications etc.) necessary to perform the duties of the position.
  • The behavior patterns of youth and methods of modifying behavior.
  • Principles and practices of social work including the NASW Code of Ethics.
  • Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) policies and procedures.
  • Family child and group dynamics.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrate leadership.
  • Motivate develop and direct people as they work identify the best people for the job.
  • Manage time and multiple priorities meet deadlines.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Relate to youth and gain their respect and confidence.
  • Perform behavior management techniques to control aggressive behavior.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees other agencies and the public.
  • Exercise professional judgment in making decisions.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Attend and conduct agency training and maintain necessary certifications and licenses.
  • Maintain a Michigan driver s license and driving record that allows the operation of an agency or personal vehicle for agency business or to transport clients as needed.
  • Work flexible hours when needed which may include some evenings and weekends.
