The Strategic Initiative Coordinator manages and coordinates implementing healthy pantry initiatives within Mercer Street Friends. This role involves overseeing the development distribution and utilization of resources and tools to promote nutritious food choices and improve food security through pantries served by Mercer Street Friends.
Develop and manage the Healthy Pantry Initiative Toolkit.
Collaborate with participants to identify needs and create effective resources.
Train pantry staff and volunteers on using the toolkit and implementing best practices.
Monitor and evaluate the toolkits impact on pantry operations and client outcomes.
Stay informed about the latest food security and nutrition research and trends.
Maintain records and compliance required by the state.
Engage with pantry clients to understand their needs preferences and challenges related to healthy eating.
Provide personalized guidance on making nutritious food choices.
Advocate for policies that support healthy pantry practices such as sourcing fresh produce and minimizing processed foods.
Raise awareness about food insecurity and the importance of nutritious food access.
Skills & Abilities:
Effectively convey information and collaborate with pantry staff volunteers and community members.
Manage resources and coordinate efforts to implement the toolkit strategies effectively.
Guide and motivate teams to embrace and apply the initiative s objectives.
Address challenges that arise in implementing healthy pantry strategies.
Adjust to the varying needs of different pantries and communities.
Understand and respond to the needs of those facing food insecurity.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
College Degree Preferred in nutrition public health or a related field.
Experience in food assistance programs community outreach or nutrition education.
At least two years of experience in a nonprofit or a related field.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse members.
Knowledge of food safety pantry operations and nutrition principles.
Experience in relationship development or a similar role within a nonprofit organization.
Valid driver s license
Reliable transportation
