Job Description

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Junior Research Assistant with a high level of commitment to support the Genetic and Crop Improvement Global Program and the potato breeding stages.

About the role: The selected candidate will assist in the different potato breeding stages using the accelerate breeding scheme and will report to the Research Associate. Thi position will be responsible of the management breeding crossing blocks collect all the data from the experiments to guarantee the information in the database is complete and accurate. Also the person selected will support the design management and evaluation of experiments under field and greenhouse at several locations in Peru but the position will be based in Huancayo Jun n.


Key responsibilities:

  • Provides analytical support to contribute with the experiments outcomes analysis.
  • Collect all the data from the experiments to guarantee the information in the database is complete and accurate.
  • Analyze the data collected using different programs to contribute with the experiments drafts papers.
  • Support on administration and logistics operations to guarantee an effective supply chain for the projects needs.
  • Review and analyze information related to the projects/area topic to contribute in the construction of the draft paper.
  • Supervise and provide specific instructions to the technicians and auxiliaries to guarantee the correct execution of the experiment.
  • Comply with applicable health and safety CIP policies and procedures.


Requirements

What are we looking for

  • Bachelor s degree in Agronomist Biologist or Agricultural Engineering with 1 year of work experience at least.
  • Experience working in close collaboration with a scientific research environment.
  • Experience in collecting managing phenotypic data and basic statistical analysis using MS Office.
  • Skills in using and learning how to use scientific equipment and devices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated ability on problem solving and capability to work independently.
  • Hard working with ability to handle multiple work activities in an effective and satisfactory manner.
  • Willingness to undertake national and international travel.
  • Excellent Spanish written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate written and oral communication skills in English.
