Job Description

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Provide a high standard of direct nursing care to service users based on the assessment of care needs and in consultation with the service users their relatives and the care team.
  • Assume responsibility for the nursing services provided by the home.
  • Continuously evaluate the quality of care given and regularly reassess the needs of service users in consultation with the service users their relatives and the care team and to effect change required to achieve planned goals.
  • Ensure that residents are always well safeguarded from abuse and neglect and that safeguarding policies are fully implemented alongside those on health and safety and infection control.
  • Administer and order medicines as required by service users and the home s policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with service users GPs and other healthcare professional involved such as occupational therapists physiotherapists community nurses etc.
  • Engage in nurse care planning and implementation of care plans.
  • Work within the NMC codes of conduct and Scope of Practice and within the homes policies and procedures.
  • Continuously review their own nursing practices to develop new skills and knowledge through continuous professional development training that contribute to the enhancement of patient care skills.
  • Work closely with other members of the care team ensuring that effective highquality care is given to achieve planned goals.
  • Provide support and professional supervision to care staff and nursing assistants as appropriate.
  • Attend and participate in relevant staff meetings.
  • Make effective and efficient use of all the home s resources.
  • Work in partnership with service users families and friends in planning implementing and reviewing care plans.
  • Enable service users to receive appropriate religious cultural emotional and psychological support.

Requirements

  • Current valid NMC registration
  • Minimum 6 months recent relevant UK experience
  • Current and up to date training records
  • 2 professional clinical references

SKILLS REQUIRED: Proficient Written Skills: Maintain all care plans/care records per the service s policy Leadership Skills: Ability to induct and orientate new employees to the job role and service Support service users/assist as they accomplish daily tasks, including bathing, eating, dressing, grooming and using the bathroom and communicate any problems, concerns or changes to service users family members as needed Communication Skills: Carers must build a rapport with service users by establishing personal connections and showing an interest in their lives Carers must be able to communicate effectively with service users and have the communication skills to inform colleagues, management and professionals about the needs of service users Problem-Solving Skills: Carers need to be able to adapt to and address situations quickly Plan, develop, implement and assess approaches to promote health and well-being whilst recognising and reporting situations where there might be a need for protection.
