Research Assistant

1. Science:

• Assist in conducting and monitoring experiments and collecting research data on multiscale impact evaluation of agroforestry agroecology forestry and natural resources management interventions in Burkina Faso and the Sahel region.
  
• Perform literature reviews and summarize relevant studies.
  
• Assist in data analysis and interpretation.
  
• Assist in nursery establishment plant propagation and germplasm conservation stand maintenance and monitoring in the Sahel region.
  
• Compile analyze data and organize research findings for a better understanding current state of land and vegetation to support decision making for their sustainable management.
  
• Maintain accurate records and ensure data integrity.
  
• Collaborate with team members to develop research methodologies and protocols.
  
• Prepare scientific reports presentations and manuscripts.
  
• Contribute to scientific animation on landscape restoration and surveillance and agroforestry technologies up scaling in the Sahel.
  

2. Resources mobilization:

• In collaboration with relevant scientists develop concept notes and bankable proposals to generate funds and support CIFORICRAFs interests
  
• Contribute to the planning organization and conduct of CIFORICRAF events in Burkina Faso and the Sahel.
  

3. Capacity building:

• Lead and supervise the capacity building initiatives of REELS and other projects of the country and the region
  
• Contribute to capacity strengthening amongst partners in the country including cosupervision of postgraduate students.
  

4. Partnership.

• Contribute to maintain and further develop relationships with key CIFORICRAF partners and stakeholders including national governments multilateral and regional organizations donor agencies nongovernmental organizations and research institutions.
  

5. Other Responsibilities.

• Identify and mitigate potential risks within your work area
  
• Take reasonable care of own occupational health and safety and that of others as obliged by CIFORICRAF s Occupational Health and Safety Policy and cooperate with CIFORICRAF in complying with requirements under any statutory health and safety provisions of relevant Country laws.
  
• Participate in other projects of Burkina Faso and the Sahel as deemed appropriate.
  
• Perform any other related duties as may be requested by the Management.
  

Requirements

• Engineer degree or MsC in Agricultural Science or related science (Forestry Agroforestry Agriculture Ecology Natural Resource Management) with strong expertise in research for development in agroforestry and forestry.
  
• Familiarity with ecological interactions at landscape level environmental services
  
• Knowledge on local farmer institutions and knowledge dissemination.
  
• Experience in conceptualizing farmlevel production research agroforestry technology options and farmer decisions mainly on tree crops.
  
• Some experience coordinating multiinstitutional and multidisciplinary research for development projects.
  
• Strong organizational and time management skills
  
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis software (e.g. SPSS Excel)
  
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  
• Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
  
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team setting
  
• A minimum of 5 years post MSc experience working in research and/or education in agriculture or natural resources; of which at least 3 years in developing countries especially in subSaharan Africa.
