Job Description

The Organization

The Alliance of Bioversity International delivers researchbased solutions that harness agricultural biodiversity and sustainably transform food systems to improve people s lives. The Alliance is part of CGIAR a global research partnership for a foodsecure future dedicated to reducing poverty enhancing food and nutrition security and improving natural resources and ecosystem services.


About the position

PABRA under the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT is looking for a nutrition and food technology intern to support development and optimization as well as promotion demand creation and evaluation of common beans and beanbased processed food products to enhance valueaddition commercialization nutrition and food security.


Key duties & responsibilities

  • Work with processors and scientists to assist in formulating and developing beanbased food product prototypes.
  • Conduct trials and testing for product stability taste and nutritional content and sensory evaluations for prototypes and existing beanbased products for enhanced nutritional value and consumer acceptance.
  • Develop nutritional information panels and labels for new and existing products and collaborate with the research teams to assess the health benefits of bean consumption.
  • Implement climate smart quality control measures during the processing of beanbased products and ensure compliance with national and international food safety standards.
  • Document and report on quality assurance processes and outcomes.
  • Develop educational and promotional materials and campaigns including social media to promote the nutritional benefits of beans and beanbased processed food products.
  • Assist in conducting market research to identify consumer preferences and market trends.
  • Maintain accurate records of project activities and outcomes.
  • Prepare regular progress reports for the supervisor and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master s degree in nutrition food and consumer economics food science foodstuff technology or a related discipline.
  • Creativity and critical thinking are key.
  • Strong understanding of food chemistry microbiology and processing technologies.
  • Excellent problemsolving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and industryspecific software.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written including social media.
  • Ability to work in a teamoriented environment.


Terms of employment

This is an internship position based in Kigali Rwanda. The initial contract will be for a period of six (6) months subject to availability of funds and performance.
