Job Description

Are you the Civil Litigation Lawyer we re looking for If you re ambitious vibrant and want to gain exposure to fast paced local authority litigation then read on! This is a full time permanent role based in the Town Hall with the ability to work remotely for most of the week. We have one of the youngest most multicultural and fastest growing populations in the country. This is an exciting time to join the council as we bring the old Royal London Hospital in the heart of Whitechapel back to life as our new town hall. Our wellresourced and Lexcel accredited legal team has a crucial role providing the full range and variety of expert services across all areas of the council s work. We have also recently restructured our legal service which is now in the best position to meet the needs and aspirations that we share with our residents and the wider community. If you re a highly motivated legal professional keen to maximise your potential then we d love to hear from you. You will be joining a dynamic supportive diverse team working in a relaxed but professional environment. Key Responsibilities You will be one of a team of lawyers dealing with a variety of Civil Litigation matters. These include disrepair homelessness antisocial behaviour unauthorised occupation employment and miscellaneous litigation. You will be able to demonstrate experience in 2 or more of these areas and the transferable skills and willingness to undertake a variety of work. You will have experience of conducting advocacy and be able to conduct your caseload with minimum supervision and will be accustomed to working at pace in a busy team. Requirements You must be a Qualified Solicitor/Barrister or Fellow of CILEX and hold a practising certificate.

Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards national policies and legal procedures that apply to the post, in respect of public sector work. Knowledge of local government law and administration and best value. Understanding of the principles of client care and experience of working in a Lexcel accredited office. Understanding of risk as it relates to legal matters within the remit of the post. Practising Solicitor/Barrister or FILEX with relevant experience in the post or similar. Experience in advice, interpreting legal issues, preparing written advice and conducting legal casework relevant to the post. Ability to work unsupervised on a varied and extensive caseload of routine matters and to work effectively under pressure prioritising tasks. Ability to undertake advocacy at tribunals and courts relevant to the post, as appropriate to grade and experience. IT literate, able to understand and operate basic work packages including outlook.
