  • Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquires Fingerprints and Drug Screen
  • Type of Employment: FullTime 40 hours per week.
  • Estimate Pay: $21.77/hour.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: 80hours per year occurring on day one.

Working Hours

The Phlebotomist will normally work from Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm with a 30minute unpaid lunch break. The Phlebotomist will not work more than 40 hours a week.

Summary of Duties

The Phlebotomist will provide Phlebotomy Services for the prison population at the Federal Correctional Institute McDowell Welch West Virginia. This includes provided but not limited to collection of blood and urine samples preparation and tracking of all laboratory samples biological specimen preparation and packaging for shipment and maintaining laboratory logs and other records as necessary to comply with Clinical Laboratory Inspection Amendment (CLIA) guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Must have valid Phlebotomist certifications to practice in West Virginia.
  • Must have one (1) year of Phlebotomy experience.
  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory operations.
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and techniques.
  • Skills in obtaining blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
  • Skills in accurately recording information concerning specimens.
  • Skills in interpreting and communicating written and oral instructions.
  • Must be CardioPulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).

Attire

The contractor is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). No khaki orange or green scrubs. The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collection of laboratory specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture from patients for analysis or other medical purposes.
  • Collect blood samples urine occult blood on fecal smears finger stick blood sugars and other test identified by CLIA regulations from patients for laboratory testing.
  • Receive and organize request for blood collection and package specimens for shipping to reference laboratories.
  • Distribute blood to proper laboratory section after collection for testing. Scanning all results into the patients electronic medical records upon receipt.
  • Gather supplies and equipment necessary for collection of blood samples.
  • Ensure requests for additional supplies are provided to Health Services Administrator or their designee.
  • Assemble equipment such as tourniquet needles disposable containers for needles blood collection devices gauze cotton and alcohol on work trays according to requirements for specified test or procedures.
  • Keep blood collection area and phlebotomy trays clean and restocked for future use.
  • Record blood collection statistics for documentation as required to include monthly cost adjudication purposes.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on IOP and submit the reports to the IOP coordinator if required.
  • Strict adherence to safety and infection control procedures is required at all times. This will include quality assurance checks and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment as well as maintaining a record of tests and checks performed.
  • Provide other tests as required.
  • Due to the nature of the correctional setting delays in performance of work may be expected. Such delays may include but are not limited to inclement weather electrical or mechanical problems or other security matters.
