Job Description

Designation: Senior Project Manager

Duration: Full Time

Location: Virginia Beach VA

Salary: $120k $140k

Description

A Senior Project Manager in the Federal Market Sector will be responsible for planning coordinating and managing activities on single or multidiscipline projects of moderate to large scope involving architecture engineering planning interior design or other areas of the firms practice. Senior Project Managers are also responsible for mentoring and overseeing the work of Project Managers.

By virtue of the knowledge and experience gained during their years of practice a Senior Project Manager will be capable of successfully managing multiple projects or very large and complex projects to ensure project success. They shall provide leadership and supervision of project support staff and also participate in firm activities to improve the processes and procedures used during the design documentation and construction administration activities of a project. They shall also be actively involved in the marketing and business development activities of the company and develop strong professional and personal relationships with our clients contractors and consultants to foster repeat business.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Knowledge of Federal processes and criteria necessary to effectively lead motivate and communicate with a project team during scope and project execution
  • Working with the Managing Principal and Design Manager to develop and present projects to clients contractors project team members AHJs and members of the public through all stages of the project
  • Coordinating with Federal clients to ensure successful completion of projects that may involve either new construction or renovation
  • Facilitating a professional and successful relationship between Federal client contractors and the project team
  • Running project meetings and participating in management meetings
  • Actively support Managing Principals and Marketing in the Companys Federal marketing and business development activities
  • Preparing contracts and fee proposals for MP review and participating in contract negotiations on large projects
  • Ensuring staff compliance with quality control policies and procedures
  • Developing and managing project planning budgeting and critical project objectives
  • Verify project consultants are properly licensed and insured
  • Managing the work training and vacation of project staff
  • Assemble staff for project teams with input and concurrence from Managing Principals Department Directors and Department Heads
  • Working with responding to and taking direction from Managing Principals and senior management
  • Mentoring and developing Project Managers
  • Ability to travel is required

Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform Managing Principal duties as assigned
  • Monitor scope/schedule creep for potential additional services
  • Provide weekly progress reports to Federal Clients
  • Maintain project documentation in electronic form and Newforma
  • Assemble and maintain design discipline sheet mockups and work plans
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets and schedules with input from each discipline and consultants
  • Facilitate project team meetings to review project scope project progress and schedule issues as well as team coordination coordination with consultants and problem solving
  • Review RFI and shop drawing submittal responses for appropriateness and completeness
  • Prepare draft monthly invoices 12 month invoice projections and monitor accounts receivable
  • Review and approve project related expenses and consultant invoices
  • Assemble and review design milestone submittal deliverables and ensure completeness and quality of the submittal
  • Perform project closeout and archiving tasks
  • Schedule QC/QA and gray team reviews
  • Schedule and/or conduct periodic site visits during construction

Education Technology and Experience

  • A bachelors degree in engineering architecture interior design or planning may be given additional consideration
  • Additional consideration will be given for candidates who have obtained the following certifications:
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer Registered Architect or Interior Designer is preferred
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is desirable
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices with LEED AP accreditation is preferred
  • Additional certifications such as CDT CCS or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an everincreasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process
  • A Senior Project Manager should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing email accounting and information management. Current programs include:
    • MS Word
    • MS Excel
    • MS Outlook
    • MS PowerPoint
    • MS OneDrive
  • Experience in the use of the following programs is desirable:
    • Visual Planning
    • AIA Contract Documents
    • Newforma Project Center
    • Various other MS 365 Apps (Power BI Project Lists etc.)
  • A minimum of 12 years prior experience in an Engineering or multidiscipline Architectural and Engineering firm is desirable
  • Knowledge of A/E Industry and terms commonly utilized in the Federal market

Additional Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • A Senior Project Manager will typically have significant experience as a Project Manager in a leadership role in the areas of the firms practice
  • Senior Project Manager will have demonstrated skills and abilities to mentor Project Managers lead large projects and develop new business.
  • Previous experience with Federal projects may be given additional consideration.
  • Ability to prepare effective and concise documents
  • Possess technical precision and creative design skills
  • Ability to make presentations to a variety of groups
  • Have a clientoriented attitude with a desire to provide outstanding professional services
  • Be dedicated to his or her professional development as well as the success of colleagues and the firm as a whole
  • Demonstrated recognized leadership within the firm and outside the firm
  • Possess excellent team leadership capabilities and abilities
  • Specialized experience in one or more areas of the firms practice
  • Possess knowledge and expertise to prepare and negotiate complex proposals and contracts with minimal oversight by a Managing Principal
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently deliver significant project volume ontime onbudget and exceeding client and firm expectations

Physical Requirements
Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. The work area is lighted heated and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing sitting as well as some repetitive movements bending and lifting of minimal weight. Workplace Flexibility
We have selected two common days in the office to nurture collaboration and innovation and to support learning and growth through engagement with colleagues. We are asking everyone to be present on Mondays and Thursdays with a required third day that will provide additional flexibility and be set between you and your supervisor (with consideration given to your project team members and clients). Our hope is that this schedule will offer the worklife balance that is desired by all while providing consistent opportunities for facetoface collaboration and mentorship.
