Program: Focus on SelfSufficiency (FSSD)

Location: 400 West Ave

Position: Employment Specialist

Hours: 37.5 hrs / 52 wk

Salary Range: $45000 $47000

Salary Grade: 10

Summary of Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the FSSD Career Development Coordinator the Employment Specialist will assist in the planning development implementation and oversight of assigned services offered through the Focus on Self Sufficiency Department (FSSD). The Employment Specialist assist in the administration and coordination of activities offered through FSSDs employment and vocational services unit; and works to ensure adherence to contractual and labor mandates associated with employment and vocational development initiatives and service provision.

Qualifications / Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelors Degree preferred Associates Degree required in Human Services Social Work Business Administration Educational and Vocational Development or related discipline; a combination of education & experience will be considered. Family Development Credential or related certifications are a plus. Should be willing to complete coursework necessary to meet required qualifications within a specified time frame.
  • Experience: Requires a minimum of two (2) years of direct experience working with young adults and adults in the following areas: human services educational and vocational and personal development counseling job readiness development & placement service coordination case management and or related fields; preferably in a non profit and communitybased setting
  • Requires strong organizational and planning skills; attentiveness to details in coordinating program activities. Requires good administrative analytical negotiations and problemsolving skills. Must be able to manage multiple priorities multitask and meet established deadlines. Requires the ability to use independent judgment and function as part of a team. Must be able to work in fastpaced environment; and must have flexibility in working occasional evening and weekend hours.
  • Must have strong experience in overseeing coordinating and conducting workforce preparation and skill development activities and training including career and vocational assessments career exploration job readiness training placement job retention skills; case management; and information & referral services. Knowledge of career enrichment educational general support and remedial programs is required (i.e. REOC BOCES RCSD etc.). Familiarity with occupational labor market projections labor laws workforce development and educational initiatives and opportunities is required.
  • Requires excellent communication skills oral & written. Must have experience in preparing and disseminating marketing informational & educational materials and related communications for consumers. Requires strong public speaking and facilitation skills classroom management and small group facilitation experience. Should be familiar with group dynamics consumer engagement integration activities and team building strategies. Requires experience developing and presenting lifeskills asset development and related training and instructional sessions.
  • Requires strong interpersonal and customer service skills; enthusiasm sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds in a variety of settings. Should have a particular understanding of the issues relating to special needs populations. Must have good understanding and sensitivity of related issues faced by individuals and families moving from dependence on public assistance to independence and selfsufficiency.
  • Experience conducting consumer recruitment screening intake and assessment services is required. Requires strong experience creating consumer service strategy and employment development plans including educational training and career goals. Prefer familiarity with common personal needs academic and vocational assessment and diagnostic testing processes instruments interpretation and presentation of findings (i.e. TABE Career Inventories etc.). Knowledge of support and referral resources that assist with credentialing and certifications academic remediation financial literacy childcare transportation housing and job retention is preferred.
  • Requires strong experience in coordinating and conducting job placement and job development activities and services including demonstrated experience in identifying and developing paid employment opportunities. Must have a strong knowledge of effective job development strategies including marketing social media and public relations efforts. Must be able to maintain collaborative working relationships with business employment and a variety of supportive community partners. Requires the ability to cultivate relationships that increase access to current job openings and opportunities for career development and advancement for consumers.
  • Requires proficiency in use of Microsoft Office products including outlook. Requires ability to develop and manage program data base systems; maintain consumer information; analyze and interpret consumer progress in meeting program outcomes. Must have the ability to complete input and documentation in preparing reports presentations and announcements on consumer and program status. Experience in CAP 60and325 is a plus.
  • Bilingual capabilities preferred: English and Spanish preferred.
  • Requires the physical health and physical capability to work in an office and classroom setting.
  • Requires a valid NYS Drivers License and access to reliable transportation.
