Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Perform a range of repair and maintenance tasks on new and used equipment including predelivery inspections condition assessments modifications upgrades overhauls and preventative maintenance. The role encompasses work on general mineral processing bulk materials handling forestry and recycling equipment. Additionally support production activities such as equipment maintenance and conveyor services.

Specific Duties:

  • Mechanical and Engine Systems: Diagnose faultfind and repair mechanical and engine systems using technical information procedures and manuals.
  • Hydraulic Systems: Diagnose faultfind and repair hydraulic systems by reading schematics interpreting technical data and testing pressures and flows.
  • Electrical Control Systems: Diagnose faultfind and perform basic repairs on 12V and 24V electrical control systems using schematics testing voltages and continuity.
  • Welding: Conduct basic welding tasks with appropriate instruments.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure quality standards and procedures are maintained during repairs and modifications.
  • Technical Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports on equipment condition and required remedial work.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain technical records including photographic evidence of work settings checks and balances in line with OEM standards.
  • Support Apprentices and Assistants: Use trade expertise to support and guide apprentices and trades assistants.
  • Workshop Maintenance: Maintain workshop vehicles equipment and tools ensuring they are operational and clean and report any issues.
  • Lifting Equipment: Operate lifting equipment safely including overhead cranes elevated work platforms and forklifts.
  • Rubber Belts: Assist with cutting splicing and bending rubber belts for crushing screening washing and conveying equipment.
  • Assembly: Position align and secure structural and rubber parts to equipment.
  • Documentation: Accurately complete workshop job sheets daily.
  • Adhoc Duties: Perform any lawful and reasonable tasks requested by the company.

Occupational Health Safety & Environment:

  • Maintain a clean and tidy work environment free from hazards.
  • Complete daily prestarts JSEA’s JHA’s and Take 5’s as required.
  • Support OH&S practices and policies managing hazards and potential risks proactively.
  • Report environmental impacts immediately.
  • Comply with environmentally sustainable measures and site policies.

Skills and Qualifications:

Education / Qualifications / Experience:

  • Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering (Mechanical Fitter) or equivalent.
  • 35 years postapprenticeship experience in the mineral processing equipment industry (experience with mobile screening and crushing equipment is highly desirable).
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems with electrical troubleshooting capability.
  • Experience with positioning aligning and securing structural and rubber parts to crushing screening washing and conveying equipment.
  • Basic welding experience.
  • Experience with mechanical splicing of conveyor belts.
  • Driver’s license forklift license and overhead crane license (preferable).

Skills:

  • Ability to work within a small busy team.

  • Strong attention to detail and problemsolving abilities.
  • Strong focus on safety.
