  • Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquires
  • Fingerprints and Drug Screen.
  • Type of Employment: FullTime 40 hours per week.
  • Estimate Pay: $31.67/hour.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80hours per year occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56hours per year occurring day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours

The Dental Assistants will normally work from Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm with a 30minute unpaid lunch break (except Federal holidays). These hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the institution. The schedule shall not exceed estimated forty (40) hours per week.

Summary of Duties

The Dental Assistants will provide inmates at the prison normal Dental services in accordance with the Health Services Departments and medical providers directions. All services shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Dental services and compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Completed an approved Dental Assistant training program that satisfies the Washington State Department of Health training or experience requirements.
  • Hold a current active full and unrestricted license or registration as a Dental Assistant from the State of Washington.
  • Have 6 months of applicable experience as evidenced on their resume
  • Possess specialty training from a licensed dentist and/or certification from an accredited Dental Assistant school.
  • Knowledge of methods techniques and procedures to perform job activities on various types of medical equipment and automated systems.
  • Knowledge of safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment.
  • Possess the ability to relate and deal effectively with Physicians Dentists peers inmates and others; and to recognize report and record changes in patients physical and emotional condition.

Attire

The Dental Assistant The contractor is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing. Items specifically prohibited include but are not limited to: open toed shoes and sleeveless seethrough or skintight clothing.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Dental Assistant must possess the ability to collect and track data and enter data into the agencys electronic system and track scheduling of patient care and must have knowledge and experience in maintaining patient medical records and confidentiality.

Infection Control:

  • Function as infection control coordinator for the dental clinic.
  • Ensure all work surfaces equipment materials and instruments are properly disinfected/sterilized.
  • Be knowledgeable in the most current approved methods and supplies for effective disinfection/sterilization. This is especially important for those patients with highly
  • infectious diseases.
  • Be able to operate all equipment necessary to complete this task.

Oral Surgery:

  • Evaluate procedure to be performed.
  • Prepare anesthetic and appropriate instruments with sterile technique and drapes evacuate surgical field retract tissue irrigate bone structure during rotary instrumentation trim interdental papillae cut sutures pack surgical sites remove sutures treat localized osteitis and give postsurgical instructions.

Operative Procedures:

  • Prepare operative environment anesthetics and instruments utilizing sterile technique.
  • Maintain dry operative field; retract tissue; place bases liners and retainers with matrices; place pack and polish amalgam restoration; and place temporary restorative materials.

Prosthetics:

  • Select appropriate trays and impression materials take primary impression for study models and fabricate secondary trays and stabilized base plates with bite rims.
  • Pour and trim all models and make minor denture repairs.

Radiology:

  • Take and develop infra and extraoral radiographs including bite wings and periapical films.
  • Must also operate and process specialized panoramic equipment and films. Maintain and use automated processing equipment.

Endodontics:

  • Place rubber dam sterilize field remove temporary filling with rotary slow speed instrument irrigate canals and prepare appropriate medicaments.

Preventive:

  • Applies desensitizing agents. Instructs patients in improving their oral hygiene. Performs coronal polishing.

Clerical Duties:

  • Establishes dental records and is responsible for the control of medical records while they are in the dental clinic.
  • Dental Assistant is responsible for the scheduling of patients preparing the callouts and supervising inmate patients.
  • Evaluates inmate worker performance and ensures that hours of work are accurately reflected per policy.

Dental Laboratory:

  • Pour impressions trim resulting models and do initial preparation of lab prescription forms to be sent out.
  • Responsible for sending and receiving all lab cases sent to Regional Lab and all resultant paperwork.
  • Performs certain kinds of acrylic work including but not limited to: minor denture repair custom tray fabrication wrought wire partial relines and rebases.
  • Fabricates bite guards and surgical stints as required by the department.

Supply:

  • Maintains adequate stock levels of the expendable supplies used in the clinic.
  • Prepares purchase requests for the purpose of ordering additional supplies.
  • Responsible for maintenance and minor repair of dental equipment.

Administrative responsibilities unique to the position.

  • Make statistical tabulation of all treatment rendered in the dental clinic and epidemiological statistics of inmates admitted to the facility.
  • Prepares quarterly and annual reports to the Bureau from these statistics and other dental clinic activity.
  • Perform secretarial/clerical duties for the Chief Dental Officer.
