Job Description

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1. Contract Position Title. Protestant Music Director (NonPersonal Service).

2. Scope of Responsibilities. Provides leadership and administrative support for Protestant choir and music program Protestant music events or concerts and Protestant music resource management for the Protestant Parish at the Columbus AFB Chapel. Works with the Chaplain assigned to the Protestant Worship Service to ensure appropriate music is selected rehearsed and provided for the worship service and events requiring music. The Protestant Music Director shall serve as the primary leader for the Protestant music at all rehearsals and worship services.

2.1. Duration of this contract is 26 September 2020 25 September 2021 (with three option years)

3. Education and Experience Requirements. The Protestant Music Director:

3.2. Must possess and produce a resume with work history degrees certificates and/or relevant training and a minimum of three work related references. Must have 3 years of experience as a Music Director

3.3. Must have 1 years experience coordinating and conducting a Protestant blended worship service. A familiarity with contemporary traditional and gospel Protestant music and an understanding of the basic Protestant doctrine.

3.4. Demonstrate the ability to play the piano or guitar.

3.5. Must be experienced in contemporary traditional and gospel music sight reading and be able to teach harmony. Must have 1 years experience in leading choral ensembles.

3.6. Be available to work flexible hours due to possible variances in service times or special service/activity times.

3.7. Music director shall be professional at all times. Attire and grooming shall be neat clean and proper for worship and ministry settings.

3.8. Music director must be willing to work in a pluralistic environment where they may come in contact with members from various faith groups and/or viewpoints. Music director shall be professional and not denigrate individuals with a different religious perspective or viewpoint.

3.9. Must be able to utilize Media Shout/Live Worship to produce slideshow presentations/music slides appropriate for worship services.

3.10. Must be able to receive clearance from a background investigation IAW public Law 101647 Section 231 (Crime Control Act of 1990 and DODI 1402.5 Criminal History Background Checks on Individuals in Child Care Service Position). An adverse finding from this investigation may result in a termination of services.

4. Duties and Responsibilities. The Protestant Music Director shall:

4.1. Direct music for the weekly Sunday worship service. Worship music shall include hymns offertory music special music call to worship postludes and other music deemed appropriate for Protestant worship. Worship times are subject to change with the Wing Chaplains approval.

4.2. Work with the Protestant Chaplains to select and prepare music for worship according to the Wing Chaplains direction. Music shall be coordinated in advance with the Protestant chaplains and the Protestant Musician to ensure the music is appropriate and to give the Musician adequate time to prepare.

4.2.1. Prepare worship slides for the Sunday Protestant Worship Service. The Music director shall (in consultation with the Chaplain responsible for the service) create and input the worship slides no later than three days before the Sunday Protestant Service. Music director shall also troubleshoot the slides to ensure that there are no errors and that the slides transition smoothly.

4.3. Ensure facility requests for all Protestant music programs occurring in Chaplain Corps facilities are filled out and submitted to the Columbus AFB Chapel staff.

4.4. Provide leadership and direction for the weekly music rehearsal. Rehearsals shall be one hour in length with a maximum of one rehearsal per week. The day of rehearsal shall be coordinated between the Protestant Musician Protestant Music Director the Protestant Chaplain in charge of the service and the Chapel facility scheduler. Final approval for rehearsal scheduling is given by the Wing Chaplain.

4.5. Coordinate and ensure that all funds requests for Protestant Music programs are properly completed and submitted in a timely manner.

4.6. Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of all services to include the weekly worship service. Arrive at all rehearsals no later than 15 minutes prior to the start time.

4.7. Provide music for religious observances of holidays and special services as determined by the Protestant Chaplain in charge of the worship service and approved by the Wing Chaplain.

Holiday services and special services shall not exceed 4 services per year.

4.8. In preparation for each service and rehearsal the music director shall ensure equipment needed to perform the duties within this SOW are set up prior to start time. At the conclusion of each service and rehearsal music director shall return equipment to the appropriate location and ensure the equipment is stored neatly. The sanctuary must also be returned to a neutral status and left in a neat and orderly condition.

4.9. Lead recruitment for new volunteer musicians and volunteer vocalists through invitation phone calls social events etc.

4.10. Attend the following meetings (when requested):

4.10.1. Protestant Advisory Council meetings

4.10.2. Worship planning sessions with the Protestant Chaplain in charge of the service and the Protestant Musician

4.10.3. Consultation meetings with the Wing Chaplain.

4.11. Ensure that all Protestant Music volunteers are aware of local safety requirements and procedures.

4.12. Create an annual Chapel Tithes and Offering Fund (CTOF) budget and an Appropriated

Fund budget for the Protestant Music program.

4.13. SubContracting.

4.13.1. As needed the Protestant Music Director shall provide a list of substitute contract personnel. Names of substitutes and their credentials shall be provided no later than 30 calendar days prior to the submusic director fulfilling the contract. Submusic directors must meet or exceed the experience requirements listed in this statement of work as well as comply with all required regulations. Submusic directors shall be approved by the Wing Chaplain.

4.13.2. The Contracting Liaison and Wing Chaplain should be notified at least 14 days before any leave of absence that would prevent the Music director from performing the services.
