Job Description

JOB TITLE: SURGICAL TECH OR (00652)

Location: Shreveport LA

Schedule: Days Mon through Friday 630am to 3pm. Will work 2 weekends and take 5 days of call. Will work all holidays as needed. Weekends and Holidays may be any shift with call to follow the shift.

    Job Profile Summary

    This position is responsible for ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and supplies for both endoscopy and surgical procedures. Additionally the individual in this role is expected to exhibit the necessary skills to competently scrub for surgical procedures and assist with endoscopy procedures. Finally the RN will assign the individual in this role other duties as necessary.

    Education

    Required High school diploma or equivalent and graduate from an accepted course in surgical technology.

    Work Experience

    2 years of experience in a similar medical setting.

    Certifications

    Required Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association. Preferred Certification in surgical technology.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

    Expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques.

    Knowledge of human anatomy surgery procedures and implementation of instruments and technologies.

    Basic analytical skills.

    Proficiency in using computers software and webbased applications.

    Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to individuals at varying levels throughout the patient care process.

    Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g. 24/7 weekend holiday and oncall availability).

    Job Duties

    Performs direct patient care duties.

    Organizes activities and supplies based on surgery schedule and daily needs of the department.

    Competently cares for and provides services to patients/customers in specific relations to their age and developmental stage with supervision of the staff nurse.

    Communicates information pertaining to patient care needs to patients family members and coworkers.

    Maintains required clinical knowledge technical skills training and credentials.

    Adapts to rapid changes in the department caused by unit census patient acuity and resource availability.

    Performs other related duties as required.

    Heavy Work Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace especially in an industrial setting can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

    Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood body fluid and tissue.

    The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.

    As the current employee works in a healthcare facility they may face a risk of exposure to dangerous medications or waste materials while performing tasks such as receiving transporting storing preparing dispensing administering cleaning or disposing of contaminated waste. The level of exposure risk may vary based on the essential duties of the job.
