Job Description

Job: Geotechnical/Staff Geotechnical Engineer

Location: Denver CO

Position Summary:
This Entry Level and Staff Level Geotechnical Engineer position are based out of our Denver (Englewood) Colorado office and will support mining projects primarily for tailings (mine waste) dams and heap leach facilities. In general this position entails working in the mining industry technical consulting working with a smaller design group and being highly integrated with clients on civil and geotechnical projects. Civil Engineers and geological engineers would be the best fit for the position but other engineers with an interest in the mining industry soils rock mechanics numerical modeling or other areas are welcome.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete geotechnical site assessments and associated field services for the development of mining infrastructure.
  • Support material characterization activities including gathering field data designing and overseeing laboratory programs interpreting laboratory data developing appropriate models and drafting technical specifications for construction.
  • Perform stability seepage and deformation analyses in support of the design of mining infrastructure including tailings storage facilities and heap leach pads.
  • Develop soil and foundation recommendations for surface infrastructure.
  • Assist with tailings dam breach evaluations.
  • Work with and provide training to junior engineers.
  • Assist with generating drawings and figures using Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Support ongoing EngineerofRecord services for tailings and heap leach projects located around the world.

Requirements Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science (minimum); Master of Science (preferred). Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering degrees from ABETaccredited universities are preferred.
  • Professional Experience: 0 years for EntryLevel. 2 year for StaffLevel.
  • Computer Software: Significant experience with MS Office Suite. Some experience using standard geotechnical design software (Rocscience GeoStudios etc.); numerical modeling experience and programming experience are advantageous; and a basic understanding of Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Geotechnical Laboratory: Proficient with standard material testing and index tests.
  • Required Registrations / Professional Development: Successful completion of the FE Exam and Professional Engineer registration with more than four years of experience.
  • Physical Demands: The position may require sitting for extended periods of time extended hours working on a computer and lifting up to 30 pounds. Field assignments are located in a variety of climactic conditions and may require standing squatting bending the use of machinery and a variety of standard geotechnical tools.
  • Technical writing: Proficiency in technical writing is expected.
  • Other (Project Level): Working knowledge of geotechnical monitoring instrumentation; various geotechnical tools for subsurface assessments (drilling methods; CPT; geophysics etc.); numerical modeling methods and software.
