Job Description

Job Summary:

Working leader that oversees second shift including directing workload of second shift staff acting as a liaison to management maintaining a safe productive and professional work environment and performing various fabrication shop duties as needed.

Hours: 2:30 PM 1:30 AM (MTh)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
These include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of our customers by providing a positive customer experience.
  • Direct coordinate and assign daily tasks and work assignments for second shift staff.
  • Keep supervisor and management informed of second shift’s progress events and needs.
  • Provide input on employee performance to supervisor.
  • Answer the phone after hours and assist employees customers and others as appropriate referring serious and/or involved questions and issues to management.
  • Maintain organization cleanliness appearance and safety of the building inside and out during second shift.
  • Train new staff.
  • Assist with OSHA compliance.
  • Read mechanical drawings to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
  • Operate fabrication shop machinery and equipment to make product according to the customer expectations.
  • Set stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale rule or template.
  • Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Measure workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.
  • Remove burrs sharp edges rust or scale from workpiece.
  • Thread pipe.
  • Perform minor machine maintenance.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work safely.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Acting as the liaison between management and second shift staff the Shift Leadperson is responsible for overseeing second shift and expected to do the following:
  • Direct coordinate and assign daily tasks and work assignments.
  • Train new employees.
  • Keep management informed of overall shift developments and staff performance (i.e. staffing or resources needed progress/delays safety issues team concerns and suggestions etc.).
  • Informal problem solving.
  • Maintain a safe productive and professional work environment for second shift.
The Second Shift Leadperson may provide input to management but does not have full authority or exercise full decisionmaking authority in the following areas.
  • Hiring
  • Disciplinary action up to and including termination
  • Complaint/grievance resolution
  • Formal written performance evaluation
  • Reclassification promotion/demotion pay

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of Company products and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of Etna policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations applicable to the shop.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability and skill to operate fabrication shop machinery.
  • Extreme accuracy when measuring.
  • Effective communication leadership organization stress management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations in a fastpaced environment.
  • Set positive example as a leader of the shift.
  • Computer literate.
  • Sound judgment on what should be referred to and handled by management.
  • Basic adding subtracting multiplication and division skills either with or without a calculator.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or
  • One to two years of related experience and training; or
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education.
Certifications and/or Licenses:
  • Ability to pass operator exam and drive powered industrial equipment.

  • Frequently required to talk and hear; walk and stand; and handle grasp reach and use fingers.
  • Regularly required to climb bend stoop and reach; push pull and carry; and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must be able to fulfill the essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and a safe manner.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include clear vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more depth perception and color vision.
  • Work performed primarily inside but must go outside occasionally with possible exposure to extreme weather.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Pass substance abuse screening.
