Job Description

Hours: 37.5 hours per week as per four weekly rota

Location: Essex Southminster

Annual Leave: 25 days bank holidays

Site details: 13 beds 3 settings in one location (walking distance of each other)

About the role:

To take joint responsibility with the registered owner and act as as the person in charge of the daytoday running of the home. To promote a safe and caring environment for service users through high standards of professional practice which are conducive to the physical emotional social intellectual and spiritual needs of the service users.

To ensure the house is financially viable following available best practice and company policy.
To ensure that each service user receives care appropriate to their individual need.

To implement the requirements of the Fundamental Standards of Quality and Safety published in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) and the Care Quality Commission (Registration) Regulations 2009.

Responsibilities:

Manage the day to day running of the home

Create a homely domestic and family environment. To be responsible for the organisation and implementation of general household duties directly participating and obtaining the full participation of all staff in the provision of high standards.

To investigate all complaints take appropriate action in reporting.

To be responsible for the receipt of goods delivered checking and reporting any discrepancy.

To act up or stand in for other colleagues when required.

To liaise and cooperate with overseeing bodies and their inspectors ensuring all statutory notifications are made in a timely manner.

To maintain a high standard of professional conduct encouraging and motivating other members of staff by personal example thereby promoting good staff morale.

To consult promptly and report to an Area Manager regarding any problems and difficulties which may prevent the smooth running of the home and offer up possible solutions.

To initiate and develop new ideas and methods regarding the quality of service and involving other staff when appropriate.

To participate in an oncall rota providing managerial support to all the homes.

To be responsible for managing supervision and monitoring of all staff’s work and care practices within the home.

To ensure staff are following all procedures for recording and reporting information where necessary. Ensure that all disciplinary and grievance procedures are carried out in line with company policy.

To ensure that the effective induction supervision and assessment of staff is carried out and that training needs are identified and met in consultation with HR & Training Department.

Service user care:

To ensure that there is a focus on fun good health and enjoyment providing people with a learning disability opportunities to expand their sphere of experience and to develop their lives in creative and imaginative ways.

To ensure all service users within the home have the opportunities to learn new skills required to become as independent as possible within the amenities of the community and generic services. This may involve assisting service users to arrange social events.

To ensure that all service users have a Service User Plan in order to meet service user need. To be responsible for implementing sustaining monitoring and regularly evaluating the agreed goals ensuring that the service users their families and friends / advocates are fully involved in this process.

To participate in service users’ reviews as needed and to ensure that Service User Plans are evaluated at least once every 12 months. To support service users within reviews and service users’ meetings in order to help them to express their views so that their needs are met.

To ensure that all service users have a competent named key worker.

To ensure service users are encouraged to exercise individual choice and control over all aspects of their lives.

To organise trips and holidays for service users and to accompany them where appropriate.

To develop and maintain links and good working relations with other professionals and external agencies in accordance with aims stated within Service User Plans.

To observe strict confidentiality in respect of any information regarding service users or staff within the home and to challenge and manage any inappropriate hearsay.

To delegate the above responsibilities to a competent person if and when appropriate and necessary.

Encouraging service uses to exercise individual choice and control over all aspects of their lives.

To ensure staff supply written and verbal reports on service users (including observations on service users’ health) and assist in the maintenance of service users’ action plans. To encourage staff to inform you if they have any doubts or concerns regarding the well being of your service users during observations

To be aware of local support services available e.g. psychologists psychiatrists speech and language therapists community nurses etc and to be aware of the involvement of any of these professionals with any of the service used within your home. To liaise with external professional agencies as appropriate and to be aware of how their recommendations can be incorporated into the Service User Plans.

Essential Experience:

A minimum of 3 years managerial experience with practical experience of supporting people with learning disabilities.

Working in partnership with other professionals eg health local authority CQC etc.

A qualification equivalent to at least NVQ Level 3 in a relevant area (management or care).

Understanding of the needs of people with a learning disability and challenging behaviour.

Understanding ordinary life principles and uptodate relevant policy documentation / White Papers.

Desirable:

Experience of managing an effective team.

Track record of managing budgets.

Registered Manager’s Award or Leadership and Management in Care Services(or working towards this)

Additional Requirements:

Available to work outside normal hours of work where required.

Flexible enough to work overtime where required.

Available to work in other homes where required.

Hold a current driving licence.
