As an Academic Advisor you will play a vital role in helping students navigate through their educational paths providing them with valuable advice and assistance to ensure their academic success. Key responsibilities
- Conducting oneonone academic advising sessions with students to discuss their academic progress goals and challenges.
- Assisting students in developing academic plans and course schedules that align with their career aspirations and academic requirements.
- Providing information and guidance on degree programs curriculum requirements academic policies and university resources.
- Offering support and resources to help students improve study skills time management and academic performance.
- Assessing students needs and referring them to appropriate support services such as tutoring career counseling or mental health resources.
- Collaborating with faculty and staff to ensure students receive accurate and timely information regarding academic programs and requirements.
- Monitoring and tracking students progress and academic standing and intervening when necessary to address concerns or challenges.
- Participating in new student orientation and academic advising events to inform and support incoming students.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of academic advising policies procedures and best practices.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential student records related to academic advising and progress.
Required qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Education Counseling Psychology or a related field. Masters degree preferred.
- Previous experience in academic advising counseling education or a related field.
- Strong understanding of higher education systems academic programs and curriculum requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to connect with and support students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to provide empathetic and effective guidance to students facing academic challenges or personal difficulties.
- Knowledge of student development theory academic support strategies and advising best practices.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle a significant caseload of students and administrative responsibilities.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty staff and other stakeholders to promote student success and retention.
- Proficiency in relevant computer applications and student information systems for tracking and documenting student progress.
