Location: 2 N Meridian St Indianapolis IN 46204

Duration:6 Months (Hybrid)

  • Position is primarily remote MF. Some travel to the office located at 2 N Meridian St Indianapolis IN 46204 as needed will be required. Some out of state travel for required CDC meetings may be required. Anticipated travel is approx. 10%. Travel to the IDOH office is not reimbursable travel to required CDC meeting is reimbursed.
  • Orientation is onsite for the first few days to get laptops set up badges VPN access etc. Travel to IDOH is not reimbursed.
  • Position is anticipated to extend beyond 12/31/2024 pending funding.
  • The Autism and Developmental Disability Monitoring (ADDM) Abstractor will complete abstractions daily to comply with the requirement of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)s ADDM Network.

Purpose of Position/Summary:

  • This position serves as an Autism and Developmental Disability Monitoring (ADDM) abstractor for the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) by completing daily abstractions for the ADDM project.
  • The ADDM Abstractor works with the the entire ADDM team at the health department along with CDC staff other state agency staff health care providers hospital staff other state agency staff and community partners.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • The core function of this position is to complete abstractions on medical records and education records of children reported with autism spectrum disorder and serve as an educational resource to the public health care providers and birthing facilities. The ADDM Abstractor will complete their work by utilizing Redcap electronic medical records and electronic education records. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Complete required number of medical record and education record abstractions daily on children within the ADDM project.
  • Follow all CDC ADDM Network abstraction guidelines.
  • Actively collaborate with IBDPR ADDM IDOH and CDC program staff on program initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of education materials and webpage content related to the ADDM project.
  • Update and maintain the hospital contact list to request medical records and remote access to medical records.
  • Update and maintain standard internal documents for the ADDM project.
    Collaborate in education and outreach events for the program as appropriate.
  • Triage public concerns and questions and forward to appropriate GNBS staff member.

Job Requirements:

  • The ADDM Abstractor must possess a bachelors degree in public health Genetics Biology Nursing Special Education or a closely related field. Experience with database systems and webbased applications including Redcap and electronic medical records is required.
  • A background in autism spectrum disorder or special education is strongly preferred. Clinical experience is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills is required. The IBDPR Abstractor must be culturally sensitive to and competent with diverse populations.

Required skills:

  • Bachelors degree in public health Genetics Biology Nursing Special Education or a closely related field
  • Experience with database systems and webbased applications including Redcap electronic medical records and electronic education records is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills is required.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and maintaining confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • Clinical experience
  • Background in autism spectrum disorder or special education.
  • Experience working with hospital staff and physicians.
