The Role:

Surgical Services at the Hospital has 15 beds and a Day Surgery Unit. Surgical patients may also be accommodated in the 5-bed High Dependency Unit.

The Hospital has 3 operating theatres and over 140 operations are performed each month, of which approximately half are acute. Procedures are performed in both adults and children, in the speciality areas of General Surgery, Gastroenterology, Orthopaedics, acute trauma, ENT, minor Vascular, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Dental.

Surgical Services is staffed by a Director of Surgery and a Staff Specialist Surgeon (General Surgeon), Visiting Surgeons, Principal House Officers x3, Resident Medical Officer, Intern, and a Junior Medical Officer.

The Hospital:
The Hospital and Health Service covers an area of over 300,000 square kilometres and services the rural and remote communities, it has developed into the major referral hospital for the region, with smaller satellite hospital - Experience working in a Hospital Service that has undergone a huge redevelopment!!

Location:
Affectionately known as the 'oasis of the outback', it is a gleaming mirage on the horizon for travellers from all directions. A melting pot of culture and industry, home to the world's third largest rodeo. It's grown from strength to strength over the years, it has ample places to fish, camp or relax and enjoy an outback sunset. The rugged terrain is a four-wheel-driver's haven, and visitors can explore the region just as the pioneers of the region did many years ago.

Skills/Qualifications:

• AHPRA current or eligible for registration
• Surgical experience

The ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

• Highly developed clinical skills.
• Demonstrated skills in reviewing, analysing and evaluating patient care.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current medical practices and issues.
• High level verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to all levels of staff and hospital clients from a variety of backgrounds.
• Ability to maintain accurate and complete medical records - clinical, administrative and statistical.
• Sound theoretical knowledge, practical skills and ethical behaviour required of a medical practitioner.
• Actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety, and ethical behaviour.
