GENERAL SUMMARY OF FUNCTION/PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The primary role of this position is to provide oversight leadership accountability and project management for an operating system upgrade on application and database servers across two agencies. Scheduled to commence in June 2024 the project is expected to conclude within 18 months. Key responsibilities include ensuring adherence to the State of Michigans project management methodology (SUITE) conducting longterm release planning aligned with organizational goals regular coordination with project management teams regarding budget quality and schedule escalating issues and risks to executives as necessary and maintaining project quality control to meet scope expectations.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Designs plans and coordinates work teams. Adheres to standard project management practices such as the PMIs framework. Works closely with the project sponsor and technical owners to understand business and technical project objectives. Develops the project charter and work plan and monitors budget and schedule progress through appropriate metrics. Establishes project organization and methodologies defining roles and responsibilities. Manages documentation of risks and develops mitigation plans; manages project scope. Creates and implements a communication plan. Builds and manages an effective team assigning tasks and evaluating outcomes. Negotiates resources and communicates with stakeholders and project sponsor. Identifies tracks and facilitates the resolution of issues and the removal of barriers. Provides Project Management technical support to project members. Manages a group of applications system analysts relying on experience and judgment to achieve goals. Professional certification is highly desirable.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
May require specific skills related to PC workstation operating system application or platform. Provides overall direction for the formulation development implementation and delivery of the project. Exercises management responsibility for project performance revenue and profit objectives. Ensures maintenance of project plans including tasks schedules estimates and status; disseminates information to team members and customers. Creates a structure for managing a complex environment focusing on quality productivity and consistency. Directs corrective actions where performance does not meet objectives. Coordinates responsibility assignment to other supporting facilities business areas and support functions monitoring their performance. Independently coordinates and completes projects overseeing all aspects setting deadlines assigning responsibilities and summarizing progress. Prepares weekly status reports for upper management using the Clarity reporting tool. Facilitates meetings and work sessions which includes scheduling agenda preparation notetaking/sharing and followup on action items.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 5 Years of Experience in IT software Project Management managing complex projects including coordination of multiple teams.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure servers and web applications.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent problemsolving and analytical skills with expertise in identifying risks.
- Proven ability to drive project planning and execution processes adding value beyond taskoriented roles.
- Familiarity with systems development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Must be local to the Lansing Michigan area with a hybrid work schedule of 2 days in office and 3 days remote.
- Previous experience with the State of Michigan (SOM) highly desired.
