Job Description

In an environment where communication, media, journalism and liberal arts faculty work closely together while maintaining their own identities, Northwestern University in Qatar is seeking highly motivated persons for faculty positions. Qualified applicants may teach collaboratively in more than one program. Applications are welcome now for appointments beginning August 2014 at appropriate ranks to their education and experience. NU-Q is particularly interested in candidates qualified to teach and conduct research in one or more of the following fields: Media, Communication and Journalism • Media and Communication Law • Media, Culture and Society • News Reporting/Digital Platforms • Public Relations (IMC) • Documentary Filmmaking and Film Studies • Media Industries and Technology • Media Audience Analysis Basic Liberal Arts Courses in areas such as • Anthropology • Psychology • Sociology • Economics Preference will be given to those applicants whose disciplinary background intersects with Middle East Studies, Communication Studies, or Journalism. We seek persons with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and a research or industry track record, depending on the field. An earned Ph.D. or other terminal degree is preferred. Northwestern University’s 12th school and only overseas branch campus invites applications and nominations for three faculty positions in communication and journalism to teach professional and conceptual courses, conduct research and engage in creative activity and service. Based in Education City in Doha, Qatar, NU-Q is a media-centric institution with undergraduate degree programs in communication and journalism as well as liberal arts instruction. It collaborates in Education City with such sister institutions as Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Georgetown, Texas A & M and Virginia Commonwealth. Made possible by support from the Qatar Foundation, NU-Q is part of what has been called “one of the most exciting educational collaborations in the world today”. Northwestern benefits from the cooperation and guidance of the university’s U.S.-based School of Communication, Medill Northwestern and Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. The 2,500-acre Education City campus has exceptional facilities in sweeping modern buildings by world-class architects. NU-Q is housed in the Carnegie Mellon building with its own new quarters (pictured) on line for 2015. NU-Q has its own state-of-the-art digital media, broadcast and film facilities in a dedicated studio building for information and entertainment productions. NU-Q is poised to extend and strengthen its instructional and research activities and is eager to identify faculty with an interface between professional and scholarly activities. A high level of research support is provided.
