Locum Consultant Psychiatrist - Townsville

The Role:

We are seeking motivated and experienced C&A Consultant Psychiatrists to join a great supportive team in a coastal city in northeast Queensland.

This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The Community Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CCYMHS) is a specialised mental health service for children and young people (0-18 years) and their families within the immediate Townsville area. CCYMHS offers assessment and therapeutic services for children and young people who are experiencing moderate to severe psychiatric disorders or behavioural, emotional and developmental problems affecting all areas of their daily lives. The consultant has registrar, junior doctor and a multi-disciplinary team support.

About You:

• Current registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• Fellow with Royal Australia & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (essential)
• C&A Certificate or significant experience
• Provide high level of quality clinical care
• Demonstrated high level of professionalism and leadership skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

The Hospital:
The Community Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CCYMHS) is a specialised mental health service for children and young people (0-18 years) and their families within the immediate Townsville area. CCYMHS offers assessment and therapeutic services for children and young people who are experiencing moderate to severe psychiatric disorders or behavioural, emotional and developmental problems affecting all areas of their daily lives. The consultant has registrar, junior doctor and a multi-disciplinary team support.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Service (ATODS) provide a range of services including intake and assessment, outpatient (ambulatory) withdrawal, opiate substitution program, Diversionary and Recovery Team (DART), counselling and assessment for youth and adults, health promotion, needle and syringe program and culturally appropriate support and stakeholder engagement.

The Adult Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit (AAMHIU) is a 33-bed acute inpatient service located at The Townsville Hospital and is a RANZCP accredited training facility. It also has 4 Pre-Discharge Satellite Unit beds based in the community.

The AAMHIU delivers assessment, treatment, and care services in both a low dependency unit (25 beds) or in the high dependency unit (8 beds) We have 3 psychiatrists providing clinical leadership to the AAMHIU multidisciplinary team.
Each consultant is allocated a full-time registrar and junior doctor support.
