Job Title:Senior Large & Complex Loss Handler

Location: Remote

About the Job

Our client is an agile data and digitally focused general insurance provider. They offer a multitude of products and services primarily focusing on private insurance across four classes: car bike van and home in addition to Premier offerings such as breakdown cover substitute vehicles and legal protection.

It is crucial that their large loss portfolio is managed to an excellent standard and to assist in achieving that aim they are looking for a Senior Large & Complex Loss Handler to join their Large & Complex Loss team.

Position Overview

The role is primarily responsible for managing a portfolio of high value catastrophic BI claims stemming from their motor book. The portfolio will include a range of values with most losses reserved at 1m a good proportion valued at 10m and depending on candidate experience the potential to handle claims reserved at over 30m. Injury types will likely include amputations andsevere traumatic brain injuries. You will use your skill and experience to achieve the most advantageous commercial settlements for the company and its reinsurers.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to help define and manage the commercial and technical claims strategy of Large Loss. This will include creating managing and delivering commercial benefits. In addition the candidate will help manage the excellent relationship that the client has with its Reinsurers including presenting claims at their annual Reinsurance Market Day.

You will form great working relationships both inside and outside of the business working with their panel of law firms barristers and other suppliers and partners to achieve their goals. You will look to develop and grow technical claims knowledge within the Large Loss department through being a senior referral point and mentor and by contributing to their biannual Large Loss Technical Forums.

With challenging market factors including significant claims inflation that particularly hits the cost of commercial care and a looming discount rate change it has never been more important to achieve the best financial outcome on large loss claims. The successful candidate will have the drive and passion to perform to the highest level and achieve above par settlements further growing confidence with Reinsurers. Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage your own portfolio of high value claims of upmost severity which will include severe brain and spinal cord injuries most if not all of which will be reserved at 1m a good proportion valued at 5m
  • Contribute to the creation design and implementation of the technical and commercial strategy of Large Loss as directed.
  • Ensure all claims outside the agreed financial authority and limits are referred in accordance with the LLOSS referral process
  • Ensure all new and internally reallocated claims are reserved within the clients sixweek SLA
  • Maintain and improve stakeholder confidence in the Large Loss team by ensuring these high value cases are handled properly throughout their lifecycle with a high degree of technical excellence
  • Maintain a detailed working knowledge of current and developing legislation working practices and Indemnity and Liability
  • With agreement of the Large Loss Managers and Head of Large Loss assist in arranging the LLOSS Large Loss Biannual Technical Forums either in organising the day writing and developing material for it or delivering / presenting at the Forum
  • Act as a technical referral point to an agreed number of LLOSS Handlers. Drive a commercial view through referral replies and utilise these to develop the teams technical skills
  • Carry out technical audits as directed and record your findings highlighting any knowledge shortfalls or trends that you identify and providing recommendations on how to rectify these
  • Maintain Reinsurer confidence by liaising with them in a professional and timely manner
  • Ensure all claims which cross the threshold of reporting are reported to Reinsurers within agreed timescales and in accordance with the Reinsurance Treaty
  • Ensure that you (and any direct reports) are meeting customers fair and reasonable expectations and provide fair outcomes. Question and challenge peers and managers where processes and procedures do not meet these expectations and any activity that does not place customers interests is at the heart of how the client does business

Qualifications and Skills

  • Preferably ACII qualified or significant progress towards
  • Minimum 10 years experience within the insurance industry (motor) in a claims handling role
  • Natural problem solver who communicates effectively to all stakeholders
  • Substantial knowledge and experience of settling claims in excess of 1m including litigation
  • Current ownership of a claims handling authority of 5m. The claims authority for this role is 5m
  • Experience of market bodies or taking part in the market groups such as the ABI PI Committee the MIB working group and Technical Committee and ISCIF
  • Strong communicator with a high degree of influence and negotiation skills
  • This is a dynamic fast paced working environment candidates should be comfortable working within that setting and demonstrate a proactive working style
  • Great attention to detail with a systematic approach to managing prioritising and organising actions and projects
  • Structured logical and pragmatic mindset with a sharp focus on delivery
  • Demonstrates a high level of selfawareness and drive embracing oppurtuniti4e to develop and learn
  • Adept at colleague coaching and developing and operating as a collaborative team player
  • Strategic and commercial acumen with the appetite and ability to contribute to key future decision making is advantageous
