The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for providing residents addictions counseling services that have been diagnosed with an addictive disorder. Addiction counseling may include limited assessment of addiction related issues and individual and group counseling. The SAC is responsible for assisting in assessment coordination planning implementing and facilitating addition programming at the facility. The SAC works cooperatively with the residents primary therapists to develop treatment plan goals related to addiction counseling and provides timely feedback to the primary therapist regarding any mental health issues that may be impacting the residents ability to progress in addiction counseling.

Employees assigned to this position must satisfy all requirements under the contract with applicable federal state and local government agencies. All employees must pass an NCIC criminal record background check after conditional offer of employment. Each employee will be fingerprinted by the Bureau of Prisons staff and/or a designee and is subject to investigation.
