Our client is a Sub-Prime Defense Contractor. and nbsp;They are an elite, multi-disciplinary team, bringing together the brightest minds from physics, computer science, electrical engineering, and mathematics to develop unique embedded security solutions for government and industrial customers.


They have been trusted by elite government clients to solve some of the world's hardest security problems. They work in small agile teams to push the bounds of computing technology. Their high-powered labs include specialized software and hardware, so our engineers have everything they need to invent new Cyber solutions.


They are seeking a Network Security Researcher and nbsp;to analyze, identify, and address potential vulnerabilities in computer networks and systems. This position can be based in either of our client's Chantilly, VA, or Columbus, OH locations. Travel to the Pentagon, Columbus OH, and/or other Customer locations may be necessary based on program or customer needs.


This is a direct hire position that requires local candidates to hold an Active Secret Clearance. and nbsp;


The Network Security Researcher at our company is knowledgeable about infrastructure and operation of transmission of data across the Internet and local networks. They are experts in the OSI model and have knowledge of encryption. This job is right if you have a passion for understanding how machines talk to one another through packet inspection, troubleshooting anomalous network behavior, and designing solutions with a project team operating in a research environment.


This is an onsite position based in either Columbus, Ohio, or Chantilly, VA which offers a competitive salary and benefits package. and nbsp;


Requirements:


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement processes and procedures for quantitative evaluations of voice and video services (MOS, PESQ, etc.)
  • Lead development and implementation of architectures for simulating (and/or emulating) portions of a customer network in a lab environment for troubleshooting and analysis
  • Research techniques used by Advanced Persistent Threats (APT) to move and communicate on the network.
  • Determine which techniques would be blocked by customer network security controls and policies.
  • Simulate remaining techniques in a lab and collect data to help develop detection approaches.
  • Research emerging trends in networking technology such as software-defined networking, network function virtualization, and virtual network functions.
  • Develop experiments to analyze the potential impact of these technologies on customer networks and document results.
  • As you gain knowledge of customer networks, define new areas for research and development.
  • Provide technical briefings to team members, program management, and customers as required.
  • Drive program and customer growth through on-project successes and strong, trusted relationships with customers.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, and (8) years of relevant experience; Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, and (5) years of relevant experience; Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field, and (2) years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with IP networking concepts such as Quality of Service (Ethernet Class of Service, IP Differentiated Services Code Pointes, etc.), multi-protocol label switching (MPLS), and IP security virtual private networks (IPSEC VPN). and nbsp;
  • Adequate familiarity with standards and standards bodies (IEEE, IETF, ISO, ITU-T).
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to customers, program management, and teammates.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with any behavioral models (MITRE ATT and amp;CK, Lockheed Martin Cyber Kill Chain , etc..) for advanced persistent threats (APT).
  • Graduate degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience applying machine learning techniques to network packet capture (PCAP) data
  • Hands-on experience with packet capture (tcpdump, Wireshark) and network intrusion detection (Snort, Suricata, Zeek, etc.) tools.
  • Familiarity with the concepts of analog to digital conversion (quantization, sampling, etc.) and perceptual encoding in the context of voice-over IP applications.
  • Familiarity with Python.
  • Familiarity with data science techniques
