This is a remote position.
The Director of Publicity wears 2 hats: Serves as a campaign manager, developing media strategy and executes PR campaigns for publishing houses, traditionally, hybrid and self published authors and experts. Key book genres represented include: lifestyle, health (mental, physical, spiritual), self-help/self-improvement, business, children s, parenting, and fiction. Position includes: executing and maintaining media relations campaigns, PR consulting with clients, proactive client communication, collaborating with and delegating to team members.
The other hat is overseeing the publicity team. This role includes: leading monthly team brainstorm meetings, running a phone meeting with each campaign manager each month to discuss strategy for their clients, reviewing all of the End of Month emails from campaign managers to keep your finger on the pulse of each campaign, handling email and phone communication with campaign managers and clients when things need assessment/ new ideas/ problem solving, assigning campaigns to publicists, email communication with clients at the start, middle, end of campaigns, getting in touch with clients regarding extension options, and overall leadership and training of the publicity team.
Write press materials, including: press packs, experts pages (see link above), sample media questions and media pitches.
Identify opportunities for broadcast interviews, media exposure, contributed articles and tip lists for clients.
Develop, identify and maintain relationships with media/journalists. Pitch and secure placements in traditional and online media outlets and manage/ schedule media requests for clients. Consistent national/ notable media hits required.
Maintain database with media contacts and media results.
Attend client events/ book tours as needed.
Occasional travel to represent company at industry conferences for speaking opportunities and attend meetings to develop relationships.
Attend client and potential client meetings (evening/ weekends occasionally) as needed.
Research media, newsworthy topics/events and angles/pitches.
Assist in social media outreach and writing blog posts for company website as needed.
Work closely with Chief Publicity Strategist to craft and execute PR campaigns.
Maintain communication with clients via phone and email for monthly updates and goal setting.
Brainstorm creative ideas for traditional and social media campaigns for books and brands.
Participate in regular team meetings, online and phone brainstorming, and other publicists campaigns as needed.
Assign campaigns to publicists and audit team workload
Conduct monthly strategy calls with each campaign manager
Proactively spot client/ campaign issues
Consistently establish buy-in from clients and team members to solve client issues
Lead client strategy sessions
Read End of Month reports
Consistent positive attitude, vocal and active at team meetings and other company functions
Mentor publicists, assistant publicists and interns on publicity knowledge/creativity, book industry knowledge, professionalism and company culture
Create training materials and programs for the publicity staff for ongoing staff development
Attending monthly Zoom team meetings and Zoom brainstorm strategy sessions
