Engineering Intern Position Description

Reports to: Chief Engineer/Professional Engineer (George J. Igel & Co., Inc.)

Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise dictated; 45-50 hour / week

Job Location: 2040 Alum Creek Drive, Columbus OH, 43207 or job site as required

The goal of our internship program is to have our Engineering Intern contribute to the effort of designing construction engineering systems and earth retention systems while maintaining and managing safety and efficiency. Interns will also be involved in the estimating of these systems. We hope our interns gain an understanding of the Commercial Construction Industry and acquire skills that will promote continued academic success.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assists with the designing and drafting of temporary construction systems and processes to safely, efficiently, and effectively build a project for our clients
• Drafts temporary construction projects in AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Creation and review of various submittals as required by contract with the owner
• Take-off, pricing and the review of subcontractor scopes of work
• Creates as-built drawings for submittal to various public and private owners.
• Occasionally working with field survey crews to shoot points and layout utilities, grade, benchmarks, concrete, etc
• Travel roughly 10% of the week to visit job sites. Site visits are for solving field issues, providing quality control, verifying information and inspecting installed construction systems

What you’ll bring

• Currently pursuing four-year degree from an ABET accredited college or university in civil engineering
• Strong understanding of math, statics and mechanics of materials.
• An ability and willingness to work with personnel in the company providing a support role as an engineering intern
• Leadership and teamwork skills
• A professional attitude and a solid ethical set of ideals
• Reliable transportation
• Driving record that will satisfy the company’s insurance requirements
• Must be able to pass a drug screening
