Job Description

Job Brief:

Freadom – a purpose-driven, for-profit company established in 2020 by Brian Floriani, also founder of nonprofit, Bernie’s Book Bank, Chicago – is the only company investing 100% of net profits to bring literacy for all. Freadom collaborates with partners to design and produce high-quality, responsibly made apparel and products, directing ALL profits to solve a root cause of inequality in America – illiteracy. With its two divisions, Freadom Lifestyle and Freadom Promotions, the company has the audacious goal of investing $100 Million to bold literacy efforts annually by giving 100% of profits to support innovative literacy initiatives throughout America – think Patagonia or Newman’s Own.
The Marketing Creator and Manager (MCM) has a driving passion to strategize, create, produce and manage exciting and effective, results-driven marketing initiatives for both divisions of Freadom. This includes product marketing on the website, email marketing, and the creation of marketing content for social networks, currently: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, and Vimeo.
Responsibilities:
The MCM will be the primary driver and creator of raising awareness for Freadom – its vision and mission – and in driving lead generation and sales via advertising and marketing in existing and emerging channels (current channels: Freadom’s website, email, and social network pages).
  • Must be comfortable creating, assessing and evaluating marketing strategy and tactics as it aligns with Freadom’s business strategy and the consequent creative content [both art and copy] developed against that strategy. Must also be able to create and refine effective advertising/marketing, producing results against those goals and the strategies/tactics created to achieve them.
  • Demonstrate ability to execute concepts with a high level of craft. Should have knowledge and experience in copywriting, illustration, typographic, photographic and video direction as well as production and publishing methods associated with all current mediums and channels.
  • Effectively manage projects against budget and within deadline constraints from strategic development through concept execution and publication.
  • Must be current and remain current with marketing/advertising industry practice, trends and technology.
  • While currently a solo position, as Freadom achieves its goals, must be adept at identifying, finding, hiring and retaining new members of Freadom’s marketing and communications team which will fall under the MCM’s management and direction.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 4-8 years experience in content, digital and brand marketing in a b2b or social cause setting
  • Passionate about Freadom’s goal of fighting for LITERACY FOR ALL
  • Fully embraces the Freadom Declaration Commitment  and adherence to the Freadom Brand Field Manual
  • Positive attitude, creative, resourceful and self-motivated
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a team and independently
  • Committed to open, honest communication; willing to have uncomfortable conversations to seek understanding and growth
  • Exceptional written, verbal and visual creation skills
  • Adept at receiving, considering and responding thoughtfully to editorial feedback
  • Willing to work in a flexible, family-oriented environment
  • Fast learner and resilient in the face of change
  • Working knowledge and/or proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier) or equivalent; Figma; Dropbox; Shopify; Klaviyo
  • Dares to dream unrealistically
Compensation and Job Structure:
This is a full-time, primarily on-site with some remote work position.  Offices are located in Lake Bluff, IL.  Compensation is competitive based on experience and skills.
