Job Description

*Please Note: The Position is for Lakewood, CO Denver. The Client is only looking for Candidates Local to Denver.*

Job Description
  • These positions are for the Federal Client in Lakewood, CO (Denver) therefore the resource needs to be located in this area.
  • The selected candidate will be part of the team that provides support to the Agencys Tape Management System, Virtual Tape Control System, and Data Storage resources for federal clients production and test environments.
  • The highly complex and demanding workload, ensuring data availability 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, requires intense, continuous support from federal clients storage management component.
  • Managing and supporting the Agencys Tape Management System, Virtual Tape Control System, and Data Storage resources.
  • Providing support for disaster recovery exercises through their vaulting operations, and tape and encryption processes.
  • Monitoring the storage environment to ensure that storage workloads are performing as designed and planned.
  • This includes managing and documenting the Storage Resource Management (SRM), Storage Performance Management, Control Software and error reporting software.
  • Design, build/re-engineer, test, deploy, and document both Storage Management System (SMS) and non-SMS system storage space for each sysplex.
  • Assist with DDMC and UniSphere deployment enhancements and exploration.
  • Analyze the operating posture of the existing storage hardware and software.
  • Use of IBMs Job Control Language (JCL), IBMs dataset utilities, IBMs Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF), and IBMs Access Method Services (IDCAMS) tools to manage datasets.
  • Work with advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Challenge with working on complex technical problems and providing innovative solutions.
  • Work with highly experienced and technical resources
  • All other duties as assigned or directed

Key Skills Required:
  • EMC VMAX/PMAX DASD subsystems
  • IBM z/OS Storage Management System and Interactive Storage Management Facility (ISMF)
  • EMC DLM Disk Libraries (Virtual tape) for Mainframe used with DD (Data Domain)
  • VNX for Mainframe Virtual tape, Oracle VSMc, VLE and ZFS

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors and 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 years of prior relevant experience.
  • 7 years of experience or more working with Mainframe Tape/Virtual Tape Storage.
  • 7 years of experience with problem monitoring and engineering problem resolutions on virtual tape architectures.
  • 5 years of experience with EMC, Oracle VSMc (VSM console), VSM, VLE and ZFS Virtual tape Libraries.
  • 5 years of experience with IBM Job Control Language (JCL).
  • 4 years of experience with CA-1 Tape Management System (TMS) and CA Vantage.
  • 4 years of experience supporting Disaster Recovery planning, testing, monitoring and restoration for virtual tape storage systems
  • 3 years of experience designing and building Storage Management System (SMS).
  • 2 years of experience using DataDomain Management Center (DDMC)
  • 2 years of experience using Time Sharing Option (TSO) on mainframe systems
  • 2 years of experience with Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF)
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust.


Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of z/OS.
  • Experience using Time Sharing Option (TSO).
  • Experience with Data Domain.
  • Experience with Dell EMC DLm8500 systems.
  • Experience with ISPF.
  • Ability to produce operational documentation using industry best practices in technical writing.
  • Ability to gather process requirements to automate into Ansible playbooks.


Desired Skills:
  • Demonstrated experience growing, maintaining, problem monitoring and engineering problem resolutions on virtual tape architectures.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, installing, configuring, provisioning, and deploying storage hardware used in a multi-node storage architecture.
  • Experience developing best practice project plans, engineering scripts, and documentation needed to migrate workloads to virtual tape.
  • Prior Federal government experience
  • Self-starter, highly motivated individual who adapts and isnt afraid to volunteer in a dynamic work environment
  • Strong attention to detail with an ability to operate effectively across multiple priorities
