Complete Description:

Iowa Workforce Development is a state agency committed to providing employment services for individual job seekers. The IT department of IWD develops and maintains applications that serve our customers. We are looking for a COBOL Developer with experience in building high-performing, scalable, enterprise-grade applications. The individual will be part of a talented software team that works on mission-critical applications using Agile methodologies.

The project is for enhancement and maintenance of components for IWD's Unemployment Insurance Benefits system and implementation of enhancements related to the CARES act and forthcoming extensions.

Responsibilities:

Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle.

Develop and/or modify COBOL programs while providing expertise from concept and design to testing.

Write well designed, testable, efficient code.

Ensure designs are following specifications and best practices.

Prepare and produce releases of software components.

Support continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and technologies and presenting these for architectural review.

Expectations:

Prior experience with Unemployment Insurance Benefits systems

Proven working experience in COBOL development and MVS JCL

Excellent knowledge of Relational Databases, SQL

Experience in developing and consuming SOAP web services utilizing CICS Web Services and XML.

Experience in working in teams using Agile methodologies

TSO/ISPF (6 years of experience REQUIRED)

IBM MQSeries (4 years of experience HIGHLY DESIRED)

Unix System Services (1 year experience HIGHLY DESIRED)
