Job Description

The Abbeyfield Society are looking to recruit an apprentice housekeeper to join their team based in Taunton. The key objectives of the role will be to provide and offer maximum support to the home and colleagues.

Working week

Tuesday-Friday with one weekend per month.
Total hours per week: 32

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Pro-actively encourage residents to be involved in the house; welcome and encourage their participation in activities
  • Provide daily contact with residents and be on hand during the working day should they require support or assistance
  • Support residents by taking part in in-house activities and social events such as Open Coffee mornings, Summer Party etc
  • Monitor residents behaviour and health and note any deterioration immediately and inform your line manager

Catering:

  • Be responsible for the provision, preparation and serving of the agreed number of meals each day, ensuring the dietary needs, tastes and preferences of all residents are met
  • Ensure the kitchen and kitchen practice always meet environmental standards (Safer Food Better Business Guidance)
  • Lay and clear tables for meals
  • Prepare food for the following day s meal
  • Follow cleaning schedules for the kitchen as per the Safer Food folder
  • Ensure bins and recycling bins are emptied daily. Wash and clean brown outside recycling bins weekly

Cleaning Duties:

  • Ensure tea towels, cleaning cloths, uniforms, aprons are put on to wash overnight daily
  • Clean floor and tidy the store room and conservatory daily

Staff:

  • Work closely with other Housekeepers on duty, Domestic staff, House Manager and Trustees of Abbeyfield
  • Be prepared to cover other Housekeeper shifts if the need arises.
  • Any changes to shift patterns must be agreed by your Line Manager
  • Liaise with any contractors employed and discuss any further action with House Manager if needed
  • Work with all Volunteers to ensure their participation enhances the service to residents

General:

  • Ensure the safety of the house at all times
  • Understand and follow the fire regulations and complete daily/weekly/monthly fire checks
  • Report the need for any house repairs in the maintenance book
  • Be responsible for signing in and out with Taunton Deane Helpline
  • Attend annual reviews and appraisals and participate in ongoing personal development training where necessary

  • To be aware of and comply with safe working practices as laid down by the Health and Safety at Work Act

  • To carry out any additional and reasonable duties as requested
