Job Description

Where you will work


Our client is a one-stop shop when it comes to Bookkeeping services. As part of a friendly team of 12, you will have a dynamic role across our clients bookkeeping practice where you will troubleshoot, dive into client work where particular additional support and time is needed, handle short term or ad-hoc work, work with brand new clients to help them get their bookkeeping up to date and in good shape and a specific role for co-ordination for year end processes.

  • We are looking for someone with extensive bookkeeping experience using Xero.

  • An accounting qualification is beneficial but not essential.

  • Ability to visit clients if required

  • Available to meet the team when required in Hitchin


Your Role:

  • Carrying out bookkeeping processes effectively and accurately and in accordance with The Bookkeeping Department s processes and up to trial balance stage.

This includes;

  • Processing sales invoices and other types of income

  • Processing purchase invoices, receipts, expenses and other expenditure items

  • Ensuring items are correctly coded to the appropriate nominal.

  • Ensuring items are correctly coded to the appropriate VAT code as required.

  • Bank reconciliation

  • Journals

  • Maintaining effective bookkeeping files and records

  • Processing CIS transactions and submitting CIS returns as required

  • VAT reconciliation and preparing and submitting VAT returns

  • Month end checks

  • Reviewing and providing monthly reporting

  • Completing year end checks and liaison with accountant

  • Setting up Xero to meet client needs

  • Providing Xero support and training for clients doing their own bookkeeping

  • Trouble shooting bookkeeping issues across the practice that need additional time and efforts to move forward

About You ACCA qualified or QBE 5+ years of experience working within a practice Experience of confidently working in a client facing role Highly experienced in all things VAT related Comfortable working on corporate tax matters and statutory accounts Attention to detail, problem-solving skills Confident in sharing your ideas Relationship-builder Experience with managing or supervising a team is advantageous Knowledge of Carbon would be great but not necessary
