About this opportunity
Are you up for the challenge to develop next generation integrated circuits for our continued leadership in mobile communications? Integrated circuits usually consist of a mix between analog full-custom parts and digital parts generated by automated design tools. However, in some very timing critical parts of the digital design, the normal digital standard cells will not meet the performance requirements and special cells need to be developed.
This thesis work includes optimization and layout of a few full custom high-speed digital cells intended as part of a timing critical loop in a high-performance ADC. The layout will be extracted, simulated, and characterized for creation of liberty timing format to be used in the digital flow for place and route with timing taken into account. The custom cells will be used together with available foundry standard cells to implement the timing critical part of an ADC.
What you will do
The following steps are envisioned as part of the thesis work:
Literature survey to find current- and the state-of-the-art solutions
Choose a set of custom cells for transistor implementation (schematic) and layout
The selected cells will be characterized for integration in the digital design flow
Use the digital design flow to implement the time critical circuit and analyze results
The thesis work will be concluded with a presentation for the Ericsson team
You will bring
This project aims at students in electrical engineering, computer engineering or similar with interest in full custom integrated circuit design.
Analog/digital circuit design basics (relevant coursework).
Experience in transistor schematic design (Virtuoso IC) and circuit verification (Spectre simulator).
Custom layout design experience (preferred but not mandatory).
