Title: Packaging Engineer
Location: Eden, NC
Duration: 18 Months

Job Description:

The Packaging-FSME is a key member of the project team and reports directly to the Client Project Engineer Manager or Field Representative. The primary function of the Wet Packaging-FSME is to provide professional technical support and knowledge to the conceptual and detail Packaging design, defining needs, requirements and specifications working along with General Designers, Contractors representatives, and Client Organization. Likewise, contributing to the planning, reporting, monitoring and control during all the project phases, ensuring the execution of the project into the expected Cost, Scope and Time, doing so in line with Local and Corporate guidelines, enforcing that the whole Packaging Design enhance business objectives, product quality and plant operation/performance while ensuring that people health and safety, product safety, and environment are never compromised.
Primary Responsibilities:

Should lead the design/engineering effort by utilizing Stakeholder, Client, and Project Team input.
Provide design and engineering guidance of the Packaging Area (WET Packaging)
Should provide support throughout the project lifecycle.
Tracks and communicates changes to the design and engineering efforts.
Works with the project team to develop scope and build bid packages, aligned with the defined Work Breakdown Structures.( WBS)
Reviews submittals and shop drawings to verify their completeness and accuracies.
Reviews bid proposals with Client and Construction Team. May provide input/recommendations in regard to bids/proposals.
Participate in cost estimation and review process related to the assigned role.
Support the Cost Monitoring and Controlling activities associated to the assigned role. ( Packaging Equipment, Machinery, Installation, OEM Support, WBS follow up) hand in hand with PEM and Cost Controller.
Recommends Best Practices regarding design and engineering elements.
Should provide input on Means/Methods of construction.
Provide warnings and inputs to the Client Project Scheduler and PEM working together with the different contractors and vendors in order to identify any timing risk to the project related to the assigned area of specialty.
Assists in analyzing project control requirements as part of the bid review process to insure all cost control requirements are incorporated into individual contracts and purchase orders.
May support the Client and Construction Team in reviewing Extra Work Orders (EWOs) / Change Orders (COs).
Works with Project Team to perform/assess QA/QC requirements.
Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
Support project documentation preparation to include concept and associated documentations, flow sheets, BFDs, PFD, P&ID, layouts, planning, HAZOP, participate in Automation Conceptual & Detail Functional Specifications (ACFS/ADFS), User Requirement Specifications for Packaging and ancillary equipment. Participating and contributing to DMO (Digital Manufacturing Operation) implementation and digital initiatives supporting the operations needs as needed.
Have a deep insight of the Packaging processes and continuously strive for the improvement of quality, safety or efficiency while protecting the technological knowhow and competitive advantage.
Ensure Packaging Equipment safety for people, products and environment and that one exhibits an attitude of absolute intolerance for unsafe situations.
Ensure that the Change Management is in place to appropriately manage modifications in the Packaging Area.
Other duties and responsibilities:

Correct Use of Digital Systems provided to develop the assigned role (MS LIST,TEAMS, BIM, BLUEBEAM, MS PROJECT,SHAREPOINT, OUTLOOK, among others)
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Regular attendance
Work with cross functional Teams
Work overtime as required
Basic Qualifications/Certifications (Minimum):

Bachelor's degree in any of the following specialties Mechanical/ Electrical/ Chemical / Control/ Industrial Engineering
OSHA 30 desirable
Experience (Years/Type):

Minimum of five (5) years of related project experience, preferably in the food manufacturing or consumer goods industry.
Experience in Wet Packaging Systems through all phases of a project.
Knowledge and application experience of safety Standards.
Experience required in Packaging equipment, specific for canned product,Thermal Process Retorts/ Filler/Sealing, labelers, Robotic Systems, unitizers, packaging consumables, conveying systems, stretch wrappers, conveying systems, tray packers, storage systems,ASRS, AGVS, among other specific packaging equipment.
Food processing plants and technologies, including food safety, hygienic engineering.
Participation in the development of engineering projects as part of a multidisciplinary team (preferably including different products and technologies in Wet packaging and Storage).
Participation in the start-up of technical equipment(s) and/or production line(s)
Self-Management following defined KPIs/Objectives, and proactively tracking them
Exposure to TPM, preventive maintenance planning and/or maintenance execution desired but not required.
