Job Description

Discovery Life Sciences is a trusted provider of bioanalytic and biospecimen services to hundreds of customers across Europe and around the world. The Associate General Counsel (Europe) contributes to our mission by driving and supporting the Company s adherence to applicable legal and regulatory requirements as well as Company policies and contractual obligations.

Tasks

  • Act as a partner to the Human Resources team and other business clients to identify and implement opportunities for improvement and efficiencies in policies, templates, procedures and processes that impact employment candidates and the Company s employees
  • Research, analyze and provide verbal and written pragmatic advice on a wide range of employment-related issues relevant for all our European jurisdictions, which may include human resource issues, labor relationship, employee-leave matters, employee benefits legal and compliance matters, employment-related grievances, and policy compliance; manage external legal counsel when retained
  • Advise Human Resources management and other business representatives (including senior management) on a day-to-day basis on a variety of highly confidential and time sensitive information; work with business clients to resolve employment-related issues, including personnel decisions, leave and accommodation requests, investigations, employee mobility requests and related formalities/documents required, legal requirements, and best practices
  • Assist in maintaining the Company s global compliance and privacy programs, including drafting and reviewing policies, best practices, guidelines, tools, and programs that align with and advance the Company s strategy, values, and business goals, including the Company s diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Responsibility during all stages of the contract lifecycle with vendors, customers, and institutional sites, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, execution, implementation, interpretation, and termination of agreements, while incorporating and addressing the needs of internal clients and enforcing the Company s standards for terms and liability/risk management
  • Respect the privacy of the personal information of employees and all individuals with whom the Company interacts and has a general understanding of the practical impact of the GDPR on employee personal data

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer in good standing in at least one European jurisdiction
  • Minimum 3 years experience as an in-house attorney within a commercial, for-profit company operating in multiple jurisdictions; practical experience in at least one of our current European geographies (Germany, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania) is required
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to develop solutions and recommendations and facilitate process changes, quickly and accurately
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability and willingness to interact with employees and non-employees at all levels to ascertain information, relay information, resolve conflict, establish rapport, remain courteous, influence decisions, clarify capabilities and propose solutions
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and stay on task in a fast-paced work environment, managing varying legal demands across numerous subject areas
  • Demonstrated business acumen, including the ability to see the big picture in a
    cross-border context, as well as the relationships between detailed and
    specific legal and business issues
  • Language requirements: Excellent English language skills, both spoken and written
