The Multifunctional Landscapes lever of the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT is seeking to recruit a Mixed Crop Livestock Scientist to support the Sustainable Intensification Initiative globally in both Africa and Asia. The desired candidate will strengthen the climate smart livestock management component of the SI-MFS Initiative while integrating their work with the crop production sector. The candidate should be motivated, innovative, takes initiative and a dynamic professional able to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team member. The candidate will have strong technical skills and a good understanding of the state-of-the-art tools and methods used for modeling and assessing the impacts of climate change on mixed crop-livestock farming systems and the positive roles that sustainable intensification can play in the context of adaptation and mitigation measures against climate change for both Africa and Asia.
Requirements
- PhD Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences, or any other relevant field, with a focus and/or proven interest crop-livestock topics
- An advanced Degree in Agricultural Economics with an ability to integrate knowledge to the social aspects of agriculture, economics and livelihoods and human dietary needs will be a plus.
- Over seven (7) years of relevant work experience in a closely related field gained in an international organization with key strength in application of mixed farming systems to climate smart crop-livestock management
- Demonstrated systems thinking for mixed crop-livestock integration with innovative interventions as applied to measurement, verification and reporting systems as applied to mixed farming systems
- Proven experience in in qualitative and quantitative analysis of mixed farm management datasets
- Experience in pathways and policy frameworks for Sustainable Intensification of Mixed Farming Systems and how these facilitate and support scaling
- Partnerships with global players in climate smart crop-livestock development
- Sustainable intensification approaches to promote One Health in Mixed Farming Systems
- Proposal and policy briefs formulations that support integration of climate smart livestock management.
