Commercial Solar CAD Designer

This position will be accountable for CAD design and documentation of large commercial and small-utility solar ground-mount and roof-top projects in Radiance Solar s Design & Engineering department. The designer creates plan sets for all phases of construction including, but not limited to pre-contract design, permitting, construction, and as-builts using AutoCAD and sometimes, on REVIT software. The designer also creates and delivers higher level Bill of Materials (BOM) and equipment schedule via AutoCAD under the guidance of the Senior electrical engineer. In this role, the Solar CAD designer reports to the Senior Design Manager and coordinates across several internal departmental personnel and external engineering firms to produce stamped plan sets with accuracy, clarity, detailing and completeness.

Responsibilities

• Create drawing packages including site plan, 1-line drawing, elevation drawing, AC-DC conduit plan, stringing plan, racking layout, labels and other construction specific details
• Design, document, and develop below design plan sets in AutoCAD for and with stakeholders
  • Permit Ready Plan Sets (IFP); Construction Plan Sets (IFC) and As-built Plan Sets
  • Bill Of Materials (BOM)
• Design solar rooftop and ground-mount commercial projects per industry standards including NEC, International Fire code, IBC and local AHJ requirements
• Maintain and develop technical library of solar equipment, conduit fittings as CAD models and blocks in AutoCAD
• Interact directly with the electrical team and the procurement team regarding all technical needs related to successfully completing a plan set
• Maintain expert CAD design knowledge of industry s solar ballast mounting systems and solar ground-mount tracker systems

Requirements

• Highly proficient in AutoCAD software including minimum 5years experience
• Minimum 3 years commercial solar experience is required with Architectural and / or construction background
• In depth knowledge of AutoCAD drafting, CAD, layers, scaling, and model space/paper space management
• REVIT software experience is a plus
• Well-versed in Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat
• Basic math skills and solid attention to details required
• Ability to interact, communicate, and present ideas in a group
• Professionalism regarding scheduling, time, costs, and deadlines
