VP / Director of Consumer Public Relations

Chaloner has partnered with Citizens Financial Group on their search for a Vice President, Consumer Public Relations to join their team.

Citizens is looking for a senior public relations professional to lead strategic external communications programs for its Consumer Banking division. This individual, based at our offices in Westwood, Mass., will directly support key aspects of Citizens consumer lending business while also executing programs that advance Citizens overall corporate brand and reputation.

Our top Consumer Banking and corporate leaders will rely on this individual to be a trusted advisor who can deliver on external communications objectives supporting their strategic priorities.

Primary responsibilities will include:

• Supporting key business lines and operations within the Consumer Banking division through strategic integrated communications campaigns targeting national and regional trade press, consumer press and social/digital outlets.


• Supporting the execution of a high-impact executive communications program, including direct support for Citizens most senior business and corporate functional leaders.


• Writing and editing news releases, presentations, thought leadership content and other materials.


• Recognizing and acting on marketplace trends and other external opportunities to showcase the banks capabilities and drive awareness of its offerings and activities.


• Developing credibility and strong working relationships with local, regional, and national media covering the banking industry, personal finance, and other relevant topics.


• Helping drive the ongoing integration of traditional public relations and social media strategies and tactics.


• Overseeing a media monitoring and measurement function that adds value and guides decision making.

Required Skills/Experience:

• 10 or more years of external communications experience. Financial services, consumer product or retail experience preferred. Experience in consumer lending and/or financial technology communications highly desirable.


• Highly strategic and proactive mindset with strong critical thinking skills.


• Ability to orchestrate complex integrated external communications programs that advance compelling narratives about the company and its business lines.


• Superior editorial, presentation, and spokesperson skills, as well as strong executive presence.


• Track record of establishing and maintaining strong relationships with journalists and online media. Current relationships with financial services and consumer products media preferred.


• Ability to quickly develop the expertise and internal relationships required to operate effectively within a complex, high-tempo organization.


• Experience managing skilled PR professionals and outside agency relationships.


• Deep familiarity with monitoring and measurement tools.


• Experience using social media to develop relationships and pursue external communications objectives. Experience contributing to social media content strategies.

Education, Certifications, and/or Other Professional Credentials:

• Bachelors degree required, MBA or advanced degree in public relations, communications or journalism preferred.
