Job Title: Prevention Counselor

Job Summary:

As a Prevention Counselor you are responsible for providing direct prevention services strategies and activities necessary to reduce underage drinking alcohol misuse and abuse illegal drug abuse medication misuse and problem gambling within the framework prescribed by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS).

Primary Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to;

  • Provide evidence based practice education counseling and case management to a case load of up to 35 clients.
  • Responsible for adhering to the agency s policies and procedures and for bringing all significant administrative concerns to the Program Director or Executive Oversight Director.
  • .

    Adhere to Confidentiality Regulations including: Federal Confidentiality Regulations (42 CFR Part 2) the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Family Educational Right and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Qualifications/Criteria:

To perform the job of Prevention Counselor successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job of Prevention Counselor.

  • Preferred A CPP CPS or related prevention professional as credentialed by New York State preferred or a minimum of one year of related prevention work experience within either a drug treatment setting a mental health setting an educational setting or community service setting.
  • Meets physical and cognitive requirements needed to complete assigned tasks and duties of the position with reasonable accommodations being made for individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to travel within the five boroughs of New York City via public transportation.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

*We follow the NYC Workplace Vaccination requirements.

Education:

  • A minimum High School Diploma or GED with previous experience in Prevention Counseling.
  • Compensation competitive; based on clinical ability & experience.
