Job Description
Modifies materials to enhance instruction as requested by the Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments and works directly with students with visual impairments including blindness. An example would be producing materials that require formatting such as textbooks. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele. Essential Physical Requirements: Occasional lifting five (5) to forty (40) pounds. Frequent sitting. Moderate bending stooping walking standing kneeling squatting reaching.
Position Specific Information:
Responsibilities:
Help ensure the safety of students with visual impairments.
Assist with instruction of students under the direction of a certified teacher in a classroom setting oneonone or in small groups.
Collaborate and consult with the special education teacher in planning scheduling and coordination of daily and/or long range activities in accordance with the IEP.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Prepare adapted material in a timely fashion as needed by students with visual impairments including blindness and Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments.
Prepare materials that require special formatting such as textbooks that are not readily available consumable workbooks testing materials and individual worksheets.
Prepare adapted materials using a variety of techniques including tactile graphics maps and Braille.
Participation in professional development opportunities to advance Braille skills.
Requirements
- Current Braillist Certification Required
- School Experience Preferred
