Academic Counselor

Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide academic advising and counseling to students on course selection degree requirements and career pathways
• Assist students in developing educational plans and setting academic goals
• Conduct oneonone sessions to address students academic personal and career concerns
• Facilitate workshops and seminars on study skills time management and academic success strategies
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to monitor students progress and identify atrisk individuals
• Assess students strengths weaknesses and interests to provide tailored academic guidance
• Stay updated on university policies procedures and academic resources to accurately advise students
• Support students in accessing academic support services and resources
• Participate in orientation programs and academic events to engage and inform students
• Document and maintain accurate records of counseling sessions and student interactions
• Collaborate with career services to assist students in exploring internship and job opportunities
• Contribute to the development and enhancement of academic counseling programs and materials
• Respond to inquiries from prospective students and provide information on academic programs and admissions
• Stay informed about current trends and issues in higher education and counseling
• Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality guidelines in all counseling interactions

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Counseling Education Psychology or related field
• Proven experience in academic advising counseling or student services
• Strong understanding of academic programs degree requirements and educational pathways
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to empathize motivate and inspire students towards academic success
• Knowledge of counseling techniques assessment tools and student development theories
• Familiarity with academic support resources learning assistance programs and student success initiatives
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse students faculty and staff
• Strong organizational and time management abilities
• Proficiency in relevant computer applications and student information systems
• Commitment to upholding ethical standards and confidentiality in counseling
• Understanding of diversity equity and inclusion in higher education
• Ability to adapt to change and thrive in a fastpaced academic environment
• Certification or licensure in counseling or related field is a plus
